Sunday’s forecast was 68 degrees. Seeing how we were hitting negative temperatures a mere few weeks ago, we knew we had to take advantage of every minute of sunshine. (Especially since the husband had to work Saturday – thanks Saturday school!)
I tried to chronicle our day with my Nikon versus only my iPhone. And if you’re ever in Asheville, I highly recommend every. single. one. of these activities.
First things first, we had to walk from our car to Pack Square park. And the toddler was directing us as far as which streets we would go down. (From his stroller, he’d point and say “that way!” and we happily obliged.) So we got to see the Flat Iron building, and then the flat iron, before heading down Wall Street and seeing the cat statues.
When we finally got to the park (I left many photos out), we let the toddler run free. He ran after his soccer ball and we did this for about 45 minutes. He even made a friend (one other parent with his daughter was there for a few minutes.) Then we were on our way.
Being Sunday, most shops/restaurants were closed until 11:30 or later. We wandered a bit, and went over to Malaprops (bookstore) where we picked up a copy of Dinosaurs for the toddler. He was obsessed. I even ran into an old friend at the bookstore!)
Then we found ourselves at Farm Burger. We ordered chicken for the toddler, and it came on skewers! Genius! He thought they were the most fun things to play with and eat.
When we left, we stopped to see some street musicians and this was a definite highlight. We for sure tipped them and were on our way.
Last stop: the Asheville Pinball Museum! For one fee, you can play unlimited pinball games. (We have a pass and we’re also friends with the owners. My husband and I have both helped them out with some stuff, so we didn’t have to pay for today’s quick visit.) The toddler also had a blast.
(This only touched on some of the things we did downtown today. And then we came home and spent a few more hours outside. We’re exhausted!)
Do you live in a fun, touristy town? Do you enjoy playing tourist at times?

Sounds like a fun family day out! Living in South Florida there are a TON of tourists here from other countries. Most of them visit the beach or go shopping but there isn’t much to look at historically! I wish I lived somewhere that was rich in museums and monuments to appreciate.
