Last year, I met the folks from KidsLink at Type-A Parent Conference and I was instantly intrigued by their product. I’ve used their beta product for a year and ran into them again at Type-A last month. I (finally) updated my iOS and downloaded their app a few weeks ago. (I was used to using my desktop version for any information. And I hate updating my iOS.)
KidsLink is a social network to share your child’s information – within a network of friends or family that YOU choose. You can save milestones in this app for one child or multiple children. You can also save important documents and information for your children (or yourself) within this app. That information all goes into a “vault” and is only accessible by you and possibly your spouse (or another person you want to have that kind of access).
The vision of KidsLink is to be the place for moms to connect about their kids. I love that. I don’t have to connect with strangers, and I don’t have to worry about people coming across my child’s information through KidsLink. I choose who sees what I post.
In the past year, we’ve switched pediatricians for my son and he started going to a pediatric dentist. There are a lot of files we have to keep up with and the old paper way isn’t always the easiest. Any time he has vaccinations, I have to give copies to our daycare provider. That means I have to call the doctor’s office and get a copy of records faxed to me so I can print them for daycare.
With KidsLink, I can get a copy of the records sent to me and I can store them in the vault. I can add a PDF or JPG and have access whenever I need it most. From the app, I can send that file to my daycare or another person via email – it is automatically converted to a PDF before the email is sent.
I save important documents like the paperwork I completed to transfer doctors, vaccination records and even social security cards in the vault within the app. I work 30 minutes from home – and what if I’m in another state and someone needs a record on my son? I can access it through this app.
KidsLink is currently available by invitation only. And I’m inviting you. Simply download KidsLink via this link and use the code LOVEJAIME to sign up.
It doesn’t have to be so serious either. You can document with photos and stats of your child. Think of this as a virtual scrapbook. The only way people can connect with you is if YOU invite them. My mom can’t see my KidsLink updates unless I invite her to KidsLink and give her access. And even then, she can only see what I choose to share with her.
If you have multiple children, each child has their own space within the app. Don’t worry about notes and photos being jumbled. It’s completely organized in KidsLink.
I love that my husband and I even have a section. This is going to be helpful in two weeks when my husband has eye surgery. We’ve been married for years, but we’ve never had to really know the other’s medical history.
If you’re interested, head over to their site to download the app and use the code LOVEJAIME when registering.

I’ve definitely considered adding my cat! I had to take her to the vet today and he was mentioning things from 6 months ago. All I could think of was that it would have been handy to remember everything. (And hey, pets are children too. They just tend to have more hair. And communicate in different ways.)
