It’s Monday. My brain is in a weird space. So rather than a brain dump Monday, how about a miscellany Monday?
We’ve tried to go to Splasheville (local splash pad) the past two weekends. I’m somewhat convinced that the city just doesn’t have it open on weekends. We haven’t seen it open in about a month (and my son desperately wants to go.) What gives, Asheville? Why all of the private events??
We’re having a small birthday party for our three-year-old this weekend. I feel like a Pinterest-fail. I really haven’t pulled out all the stops (yet) for his party. Of course, I have 6 days to pull myself together. A lot can happen in 6 days.
The weekend was good. We all got haircuts, and the toddler was able to play with a friend on Saturday morning. (Schedules don’t always align so that the neighborhood toddlers can play with each other!) My boy showed us that he could truly be well-behaved. Some days I have my doubts, but this weekend he was polite and shared and really listened.
Don’t get me wrong. My kid can melt down with the best of them. And he made sure we knew he was not happy to be at Sam’s Club on Saturday.
My latest Influenster VoxBox was a sampling of ice cream. My friend Carol and I made sure to stock up on Friday night. The girl at Target didn’t even question the five boxes of ice cream bars I had in my cart.
On Saturday, I ran 7 miles with a friend, and at the end we came across a moving sale. I randomly purchased a backpack for my son, as well as an outdoor play tent for him. He’s been having a blast – mostly with the backpack. He loves storing his cars in that thing. And for $5, it totally beat the $25 bags I was looking at on Amazon.
How was your weekend?
Julie @ Running in a skirt says
You had me at ice cream! I have no self control over it.
Glad the little man had a good weekend.
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
Awwww, you don’t have to do anything big for his birthday. I think as long as you have a cake and family, that is what counts and that would take some of the pressure off of you π
Melissa @ This Girl's Life Blog says
He is 3, he will love anything. Save your crazy birthday running for years to come when they can tell you I want this or don’t want that.
What is there to do in Asheville? We just moved to East TN and live about 2ish hours from there and thought we would pop over for a weekend visit someday.

I love moving/yard sales! This weekend my in-laws visited and gave us gobs of awesome furniture so there’s that. It was nice spending time with them as well!! Thanks for sharing your weekend.
Rosey says
Of course no one would blink an eye at five boxes of ice cream bars. They’d just nod their head and know that you were awesome. π π π
Jenn says
Bummer about the splash pad but yay for ice cream! Target lady probably has had a 5 boxes of ice cream kind of day herself. π
melinda says
kids aren’t going to grow up saying #momfail becasue we all didn’t use pinterest for bday parties. Do what you can and make it count.
Krystal says
Oooooo what kind of ice cream?! I need to log onto influenster, everyone has been getting awesome stuff lately!
Felicia says
I love it when I can find a great deal! I would gladly join you for ice cream π
Pam says
That sounds like a really awesome VoxBox. There’s nothing better than ice cream!
Amy Desrosierss says
Ughhh speaking of meltdowns, my 5 year old really took the cake today. She totally acted like she didnt hear me when I told her not to run, and she did. Once she got yelled at, she totally melted down.
Jennifer says
I hate when things never work out like that and the kids are so excited. We now don’t tell the kids anything until we pull into a place because we’ve experienced disappointments like this before
Carly Anderson says
That’s so disappointing about the splash pad! π I love that you got a great deal on a backpack, though!
Amanda says
Think of it this way, if you have an epic Pinterest fail for the birthday, you will have awesome fodder for the blog. Just throw some money and the problem and buy everything!
Marybeth Hamilton says
My weekend was great! I think my favorite part of YOUR weekend was the ice cream sampling π
Shell says
I love finding deals at yard sales! I wouldn’t question that much ice cream, either. I’d want to eat it!
Ben - Gentlebim says
You don’t need to do anything big for a great birthday. When I was growing up in Alabama, every birthday was great, and it was just the family around a big cake. My mom always made my favorite foods and everybody just hung out. It was great.
Stacie @ The Divine Miss Mommy says
What a bummer that the splash pad is never open. That’s a drag. Don’t worry about doing something big for your son’s birthday. Just get the whole family over and be together. He’ll love it.
Janell Poulette says
My weekend was too crazy. It was filled with lots of laundry and getting ready for homeschool
Ann Bacciaglia says
My weekend was crazy as I am moving into a new house. I am looking forward to relaxing this upcoming weekend.

I think it’s totally appropriate that you mention the 5 boxes of ice cream RIGHT before the 7 mile run! LOL!
Christie says
LOL, I would think twice about 5 boxes of ice cream either. Perfect for Friday!
Tiffany (Fabulous Mom Blog) says
Yesterday I was thinking, boy oh boy, this has been the longest, toughest week of my life. Then I realized it was only Monday. That’s what happens when your husband works straight through the weekend. Hope you have a great week.
Chrysa says
It sounds like you had a busy weekend! My husband was working this weekend, so that meant that I also worked. It wasn’t very exciting, but I got a lot done!
Ben @ Cheap is the New Classy says
Oh man. There’s nothing worse that a box store meltdown. I’ve had to deal with those before. It’s a terrible feeling. Everybody’s staring at you… *shudder*
mary says
action packed weekend for sure. You had me at ice cream, then lost me at 7mile run!!!!! LOL
Amanda says
Glad you scored a deal on that bag! And I totally wish I could go for a run! π Good for you!
Tracey says
It sucks when things don’t go as planned! It’s nice that you got such a good deal on the bag though.
Chrystal @ YUM eating says
It does suck when things dont go as planned but at 3, so long as he has fun with family thats all that matters!
Jeanine @ sixtimemommy.com says
Ah I hate when things don’t go as planned. For Birthday’s we don’t do much just us as a family, cake, and presents and special treats we do that day! All that matters is you guys are together!
Shannon gosney says
What a cute theme to have! Sounds like you had a great weekend!
Lisa says
Weekends are a mix of crazy and relaxing for us. We played outside, the kids had sleepovers, and lots of cleaning got done.
Angie | Big Bears Wife says
Influenster VoxBox? What is a Influenster VoxBox? Oh and YAY for 7 miles!
Jaime says
You must check out Influenster! (influenster.com) I’ll be posting about the latest VoxBox(es) soon!
Mellisa says
I love yard sales. You never know when you will find that perfect item.
Liz Mays says
Good call with stocking up on all the ice cream! And what a brilliant find with the backpack!
Shasta Walton says
Sorry to hear about the SplashPad. Sounds like you had a pretty good week, and I can’t wait to see the party, even if it is a Pinterest Fail lol π
Jessica (Savory Experiments) says
All around, it sounds like a productive weekend. 7 miles, wow! Kudos to you.
Travel Blogger says
I literally had nothing for my daughters 4th birthday party until day of. Thanks to some great friends it turned out pinterest-worthy.
Chrysa says
I loved reading about your weekend. Ours was uneventful to say the least. We love hitting good yard sales but haven’t found any good treasures lately.
