Rather than refer to this as miscellany Monday, let’s go for old school blogging. m’kay?
We went to the zoo this weekend. We spent the night in Asheboro (just over 3 hours from our city of Asheville) on Friday night, so we could be at the zoo bright and early Saturday. The hotel was fabulous. My son does not sleep well when in the same room as my husband and I. It was torture and we were all tired for our zoo trip. More on the zoo trip to come this week. Promise. (This was taken a few minutes after we left the zoo.)
I spent 5 hours in the sun Saturday. I was way protected from the sun. No sunburn. I spent time mowing after the sun’s “peak” hours Sunday. So much sunburn. I simply forgot about sunscreen (and I was in a lot of shade.) Please pass the aloe. (Also, this is just a stupid, stupid move on my part. I’m usually way smarter than this.)
I bought a shimmer-y yellow nail polish and tried it late last week. My fingers looked like I had a fungus. It was gross. Major cosmetic fail. I like to switch things up and have some fun, but now I’m back to a tried and true, bland mauve color from Formula X by Sephora. I’m meeting today with people who I’ve never met before (in person) and I don’t want to scare them away too much.
This week is going to be crazy. With a capital C. Meetings today. Traveling Wednesday. Not home until Saturday. Scheduling nightmare as my husband is also traveling at the end of the week.
I didn’t log onto my laptop for over 36 hours this weekend. It was blissful. I need to do that more often.
We had pool time Friday night at our hotel, and again Sunday afternoon and my friend’s house (she happens to be my former boss.) The toddler loved it. He loves to “swim with his feet” (which means he’s swimming on his own, with a life jacket.) My goal was to tire him out. Bedtime was mostly a breeze. I love summer.
I’m counting down the days until our vacation. Beach time. Plenty of sunscreen. Lots of fun to be had and memories to be made.
Robin (Masshole Mommy) says
I don’t use sunscreen and spent the last 3 days at the beach & I definitely have the sunburn to prove it.
Mitch says
Sounds like me, remembering one day, thinking I am immune the next. I just hope my son isn’t like me in that regard a s I send him off to sleep away camp with sunscreen that better get used!

The last sunburn I got was when I was setting up the trampoline. It’s those daily chores and projects that get us! I’m usually really good about protection too.
Kay Adeola says
My kids always have sunscreen on they are mixed race.My hubby obviously has no problem with sun burn its not like he needs a tan anyway lol.Me i can go out in the sun all day get a great tan and never burn i love it but i still think kids should wear it no matter what. Not sure on yellow nail polish lol.
Amber Conaway says
I hardly ever use sunscreen unless I will be in a big pool all day! I usually use dark tanning oil that has a little SPF. However with my son it’s a TOTALLY different story! I probably over sunscreen him if that’s even a thing! lol At the beginning of summer he gets a 50 SPF and the rest of the summer is at least a 30 SPF. He is mixed, pretty light skinned and still ends up darker than me by mid summer !
brett says
oh the yellow nail polish !! it always looks great on others and for me? FUNGUS. boooo
Lindsey @ Redhead Baby Mama says
It may leave us with less uncontent, but unplugging for the most part on the weekends has been MARVELOUS. I’m on weekend three of doing this.
Susanna @Zealous Mom says
Okay, so I will be sure not to buy yellow nail polish, although I agree that in theory, it should be a really fun color. Oh well. I truly need to unplug more often. It feels so good to do so. If we don’t force ourselves, we can be on our laptops 24 hours a day. It’s madness!
Elizabeth says
I just don’t think yellow was made for fingernails… I love summer! Glad you got some downtime…Enjoy your vacation!
Tiffany (Fabulous Mom Blog) says
I love it when bloggers just blog, like they use to when they first started. I love your Monday posts. Have a great week.
Debra says
the worst sunburn I get are from cloudy days. I always think I don’t need it and then sit out all day exposing myself and always wind up taking a cold shower and slathering myself in aloe!
melinda says
we’re diligent about sunscreen. Skin Cancer isn’t something I want to mess with.
Jessica says
I love the moments like these where I am so busy that I do not even have time to login to my computer or check my social media. I think we should do it more often considering it’s so easy to lose track of time and the important things once we tap into technology.
Chrystal @ YUM eating says
I was really good about not blogging over the weekend too! I had some posts scheduled so that helped a bit. I have to unplug every once in a while, although it is really hard.
Courtney says
Ouch! I can just imagine what that burn is feeling like. Why is it so easy to remember sometimes, and then so easy to forget?!
Veronica says
Sounds like a great weekend, soaking up the sun. I had a great one too. For the first time in months my bf was here and not off working, so we had some great time together.
TerriAnn @ Cookies & Clogs says
Good idea to tire out the toddler at the pool! Sorry about your polish fail. Unfortunately, it happens.
Melissa says
:;passes the aloe:: I love having tech free weekends…they are the best!
Debbie Denny says
Sounds like a great weekend. Good way to get away.
Jessica (Savory Experiments) says
I’ve actually been to that zoo and was quite impressed! I, too, just got over a nasty sunburn- blisters and all. Ugh.
Christie says
I love pics of sleeping children. Reminds me how beautiful they are! So cute
Bekki says
Wow 36 hours with no computer is a fantastic way to spend the weekend!! I am always applying sun screen on the kiddos. I have known a couple people have have gotten skin cancer and just won’t chance it with the kids.
Beth@FrugalFroggie says

Sunburns are evil. They’re straight from the devil! Yay for you though, for being able to unplug for that long from the computer. I usually stay unplugged most of the weekends too. Took me forever to get in the swing of that!
Dawn says
I have been meaning to go to the zoo, but just haven’t made it. Hopefully I will sometime in the next few months.
Janeane Davis says
It is important to put sunscreen on all children. Even my little brown children can get darker and bun if they are exposed to too much sun.
April @ Everyday Fitness and Nutrition says
The zoo trip must have been lots of fun! You can always tell when the kids are sleeping within the first few minutes in the car!
Felicia says
I love summer too! Bedtime is always easier when they have been full force playing at the pool all day.
krystalskitsch says
I love the hashtag #Oldschoolblogging. Remember those days? ๐ Anyway, looks like a great weekend!

Haahhahaha on the cosmetic fail. Everyone looks great in black polish but I look like ghoul. ๐
Pam says
You are busy! Not sure I could keep your schedule. Yes sunscreen always, too many of my friends lately have gotten results that are not good with their skin biopsies.
Love the pictures and your little one asleep in the car seat. So cute.
Cassie @ Southeast by Midwest says
You know you had a great time at the zoo when they fall asleep within minutes of leaving. I can’t wait to see your post on the zoo trip ๐
Becka says
I get sunburn walking out to the car lol sun screen is my friend. I also love the easy bedtimes from all the summer fun.

I need to get down there and visit the zoo soon! Boo for sunburns!!

Eek! Sorry about the sunburn. Your little guy looks a lot like my baby after the zoo. Just totally worn out.
Christina Shirley says
I put sunscreen on the boys, but I’m awful at remembering to do myself. Looks like a nice weekend!
Amanda says
Sounds like you are busy, busy, busy! I always end up with crazy sunburns. I protect my kids but forget about myself!
April Smith Decheine says
I love how you are positive with Monday Funday. The weekend looks like it was a fun filled one. The pool I bet is relaxing!
Jennifer B says
Oh no, sunburn?? I have only had a sunburn once (I can thank my italian heritage for that), but I remember it being awful. It was after being in the sun for an extraordinary amount of time, lol.
Amanda Love - Growing Up Madison says
Sounds like you had a full fun weekend. The zoo is always amazing to visit. I’ve been to 2 this summer alone already.
