20 miles – check!
Today was our 20-mile run before the big day (the marathon.) I’m happy to say that I made it through the entire 20 miles.
We did a new Galloway method (it’s every half mile, versus mile) and I’m wondering if I would have been more sore if I hadn’t done that method today. I normally do it every mile.
I kept up with Katie at the head of our group, and we soon were quite a distance in front of the rest of the group. Not quite sure how we managed that, but we both were determined to finish the run as quickly as possible.
During the 17th mile, I started having a little difficulty breathing. Still not sure why, but I managed. During mile 19, my right calf muscle was giving me MAJOR pain. Again, not sure why (except for the fact that I just tortured my body for hours on end.)
I was thisclose to signing up for a half marathon in Myrtle Beach. Katie got me thinking about the race. The rest of the group is not only running Kiawah, but they’ve decided on Nashville, Chicago and one other race for next year. Crazy bunch I run with. I did not verbally commit to any of those races. And while I was thinking about Myrtle Beach this morning, this afternoon my knees reminded me why I want to take a break after Kiawah. I’ve promised my body no major races for at least six months.
So 20 miles down. We taper down to 14 next week, 12 the week after and then 26.2 on December 12. Hard to believe were at this point.
In the meantime, want to help out with my final donations? Head over here.
