2018 LEGO Advent Calendars – to buy, or not to buy?
Last year I ordered the LEGO Advent sets for the first time. I didn’t realize just how popular these sets would be, and my son loved them! I bought the Star Wars and the LEGO City sets and I couldn’t have been more pleased with them.
Well the 2018 sets have been on sale for a couple of months, and I’ve purchased the LEGO City set, and I’m about to buy our Star Wars set. I bought the LEGO City set when it was about $9 lower than it’s retail price. (Get it sooner, rather than later. You won’t be disappointed.)
The Star Wars set is about $6 lower than the retail price. I’m ordering it in the next day or so. When my son saw the City set, he mentioned that he really had wanted Star Wars. And it isn’t often you can find LEGO sets on sale.
Last year I let him open both sets every morning. This year I think we’re going to stick with one in the morning and one in the evening. The pieces build to make a more cohesive set, and they include some characters you may not see in other sets. I’m not as thrilled with the Star Wars set this year compared to last year, but I think we were spoiled last year. The pieces still look fun.
December is a tough month behavior-wise for us. Schedules are thrown off, and I do look for incentives for my son. He loves a behavior chart, and this gives me something to look forward to each day as we count down to Christmas.
Last year, these sets only went up in price – and I think they were unavailable at one point. I highly recommend buying one of the sets soon!

2018 LEGO Friends Advent Calendar (we have not purchased this one, but will if it’s around when my daughter is older!)
I just got the friends one for my great niece. I never knew about them until this year! I love the idea and she is turning 7 this month and this one is going to be perfect for her ! I got mine last week and can’t wait to give it to her for her birthday in a couple of weeks!
I can’t WAIT to get the Friends set in a few years! I probably would have purchased the third set, if I thought my son would love playing with it, but I figured three may be overkill for one child. :-/ Your great niece will love the set for her birthday!
I always wanted to buy these sets for my kids when they were little, but I could never justify the price. I’m tempted now, though, even though we’re all adults because seriously, you’re never too old for Legos. P.S. I hope December goes better for you this year.
I’ve never seen these, but I bet they are fantastic for families with kids of all ages – and Star Wars fans!
We don’t do Advent calendars, though I did see a Chanukah one recently and thought, uh, ohkayyy.
But I have always thought they’re the cutest things w. fun ideas!
