We officially have a 2-year-old on our hands!
He has grown about 2 inches this summer. I measured him in May and then in early August and he had grown 1.5 inches. His shorts are definitely shorter and he just looks taller. (I can also tell when he’s going through a growth spurt based all of the food he’ll eat!)
According to his official stats (from the pediatrician’s office this morning) he is 26 pounds and 33.25 inches tall. He’s 13 inches taller than he was at birth.
He speaks so many sentences now. We sometimes ask him to use his words, and then I remember that he JUST turned 2! This past weekend he learned the words of new shapes: hexagon, octagon, trapezoid and oval. He’ll put shapes into the shape sorter block and we overheard him saying “hexagon. noooooo. oval!” Such a smart boy.
He went to his first baseball game two days after his birthday and I think he really enjoyed it! There was no trying to run away from us, he watched the game a little and he clapped when others clapped. (He even booed at one point, when others were booing.)
When he wants you to come to him he will say “mommy! Come!” or “gamma! Come!” and when he wants you to go/walk faster, he’ll say “(insert name) go! go!” He’s very bossy.
He loves to read before bed. We read at least 8-10 books before bedtime and he will look for a book, point to all of the books on a shelf and say “let’s see….” It’s adorable.
On his birthday, when he was opening presents, he would look at the bag or wrapped gift and say, “what IS it?” Again, adorable.
He loves his tricycle, his blocks, books, cars and his musical toys! He has a toy keyboard that he just can’t get enough of! We tried to introduce him to a new video this weekend and he turned the tv off and requested Baby Genius. I think he just loves the music of his Baby Genius dvds (and cds). We have a cd in the car that has 24 songs on it, and he just loves listening to it.
He’ll try to sing his songs and he can usually get the last word of a lyric right. He’s even started making up his own songs.
He still sleeps through the night – from about 7:30 or 8 p.m. until 6:30 or 7 a.m. He’s an 11-hour sleeper. I try to get him to sleep 12 hours, and it just doesn’t work. If he wakes early, he’ll usually entertain himself in his crib until 7:15 or so.
He wears about 24-months or 2T clothes. I think we’re going to potty train in the next couple of months, but I’m not pushing it too hard or too soon.
He had his first dentist visit the week before his birthday and while it was traumatic (they had to look at and clean his teeth, which he did not like), he’s better about letting me brush his teeth now.
His best friend is a 3-year-old at daycare named Jayde. He just loves her. We let him stay at daycare on Tuesdays and Thursdays longer than we normally would, because those are the days she attends.
He loves Sophie (Phoe) and Chloe. He sometimes kisses Sophie (which can be pretty gross) and he hugs her back. He tries to hug Chloe, but cats just don’t like toddler hugs.
It’s hard to believe he is TWO! It was so fun keeping up with his monthly pictures this past year that I think I’m going to continue them for a third year. I’ll stop at some point, but it’s pretty amazing to look and see how he’s grown this past year.
mclittle is growing up…too quickly!
