30 Days of Thanks – Days 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13

I’ve had limited computer time for the past few days, as I’ve been spending most of my time with the husband and baby. I’m thankful for that (and for the fact that I know people will forgive me for not posting.) That said, here are five days worth of thankful posts.

Day 9 – a blog
I have so many blogs in my Google Reader. Really. They get me through a night of feeding Lucas, and it’s hard to narrow down my favorites. These are a few that I never click “mark all as read” when I’m in a hurry. 🙂
a wordy mom – My friend Lynde (aka Wordy Mom) blogs and I love reading about what she’s up to, and all about her daughter. The family just celebrated two years of having their daughter home (they adopted V from Haiti.)

Little ladybug that could – Mendie has become a dear blogging friend of mine, and I hope to meet her in real life one day! She’s also a first-time mom, and has been helpful in exchanging mom stories/experiences.

Frugal Trophy Wife – Brooke lives not too far from me, and is a fellow runner. I hope to meet her in real life in the next year (hopefully we can run a race together!)

Day 10 – a time of day
I know this is strange, but I’m a fan of mornings. Even mornings that I have to get up super early because of Lucas. I love watching the sunrise. Before Lucas, I used the morning time to get my run or exercising in. And often during the spring and summer, I could get great photos of the sun rising over the field near our house. Now, I find myself watching the sun come up as I sit in the rocking chair in Lucas’s room. It’s serene, and I have time to process everything I have or want to accomplish that day.

Day 11 – a tradition
My grandparents wedding anniversary was Christmas Eve and for as long as I can remember (basically since we have lived in North Carolina), we’ve always gone over to their house on Christmas Eve to celebrate. When I’ve been home in recent years, we spend the evening at church and then head to their house for dinner. My grandma always makes lasagna and we usually have the greatest time.

We spent the past two Christmas’s at my in-laws home, so I haven’t been to Christmas Eve dinner since 2008. This year will be strange since my grandfather passed away, but we’ll make the most of it with the family that is in town or is coming to town (see what I’m thankful for next!)

Day 12 – on my own again…
Today I was thankful for all of the veterans in my life. My grandfathers and dad have all served in the military, and my brother is currently serving. I’m thankful for their dedication. And I’m most thankful (and grateful) that my brother should be home for Christmas. This will be the first Christmas in many years that I’ve spent with my brother.

Day 13 – something old
By now you’ve seen the rocking chair that I’ve been using weekly in Lucas’s week-by-week photos. That rocking chair was the one my mom used when I was a baby, and she went on to use it with my brother. I have pictures of my brother and I in that chair when we were kids, and I’m so grateful that it was in good shape for us to use for our child. I know it won’t stay in his room forever – it’ll eventually be moved downstairs when I’m no longer getting up in the middle of the night to care for the baby. For now, though, it’s a comfort to me and the baby.
