Today my boy is 4 years old. I sat down with him to ask him a few questions (and by “sat down with”, I mean I chased him around the house asking random questions and hoping he would answer with more than “I don’t know.”)

4years-5

Favorite color….Blue (like Thomas.)

What he wants to be when he grows up…a T-Rex Dinosaur

Favorite food…pizza or chicken nuggets.

And then he kind of stopped answering my questions (or responding with “I don’t know.” That’s always fun.)

4years-4

This boy is funny and has more recently perfected his “quiet laugh.” This was the year he started telling “knock knock” jokes and his imagination really took off. In the past month, I’ve noticed him getting more emotional. His feelings can be hurt. He has really developed as a person versus a baby who is learning everything about the world – if that makes any sense. He really knows a lot.

This summer he started preschool and it’s been so good for him. He is continuing this year in the K3 class, but there are other 4-year-old boys in his class. He loves his teachers and his friends.

He is stubborn and independent and has a mind of his own. He can be very sweet, but he has never been the cuddliest child. Unless he’s sick.

And miraculously, he has NOT gotten sick this year. We haven’t even seen his doctor since his last well visit. In fact, we switched pediatricians last fall, and I had to look up her name again when I called to make his next well visit appointment. We’ve been very lucky. Though we’re heading to his well visit tomorrow and he does NOT want to go!

He loves: Thomas the Train, dinosaurs, Legos, cars and music. He can play some of his instruments by ear (real, legit songs.) He can read some short words and he is very interested in really reading. He has taken an interest in Paw Patrol and Spongebob (thanks to an episode he saw on our recent vacation in New York.) He loves pizza (especially Asheville Pizza and Favilla’s).

He dislikes: vegetables, eating quickly (seriously, he is the slowest eater.) He also dislikes following rules if it isn’t his idea.

He really grew this summer, though he is still very skinny! I’ll be interested to see what his weight is tomorrow.

Three was fun, but also challenging. I’m excited about 4. I think we all are. He woke this morning and said, “is it Monday? Is it my birthday? I’m 4!!”

He also told me he is going to be 6 on Tuesday. I don’t think that’s going to happen.

His past yearly posts: One year | 2 years | 3 years
