5 Medicine Ball Exercises {you need to try}

My run streak has made it the entire month! Along with running (or walking), I’ve been working some other exercises into my routine…or at least trying to.

Enter…medicine balls. I love this ball. I have one at home that is 8 pounds, and at the gym, I use either the 8 or 10-pound ball. There are so many things you can do with it!

Squat Press & Throw – It’s just how it sounds. Hold the ball in front of you, squat, and as you come up, throw the ball at a wall. (Make sure you’re prepared to catch it too!)

Standing Russian Twists – Hold the ball at your core and twist from side to side.

Cross chops – Hold the ball at your chest and place your feet hip width apart. Raise the ball over your right shoulder, twisting your core and pivoting your left foot. Then lower the ball across your body and over your left thigh (as if you’re aiming for your left foot), essentially “chopping” your body. Do this 15 times on each side.

Standing Triceps Extensions – Hold the ball over your head, place your feet hip width apart. Bend your elbows so that the ball goes behind your head, and then raise the ball slowly.

Medicine ball twists – Your standard crunches/twists while holding a medicine ball.

If I’m doing a different workout, I’ll mix in two to three exercises with the medicine ball. Perfect for toning!

How is your exercising going? Did you make any fitness resolutions/goals?

  1. I am slowly doing daily squats. Some days I can do more than others. I set this as a goal for the year as I want to look and feel my best.

  2. Ooooo great excersize suggestions!!! Since I’m all about home workouts and I could do these all at home, I so need to try!

  3. These are some good ideas! My daughter has a medicine ball and does the squat press and throw. I can only imagine the burn after a good set of those!
