Thanks to the NC Mountain State Fair for collaborating on this post. While I am receiving admission to the fair in exchange for this post, all opinions are my own.

The NC Mountain State Fair is turning 25! Many things in the Asheville area have changed over the years, but there is one consistent event that people look forward to each fall – the North Carolina Mountain State Fair. The NC Mountain State Fair is coming back September 7 and my family is ready to spend at least a day at the fair. Our kids are at great ages, and my son has been asking about going back for the past year.

But why should YOU attend? Let me count the ways…

The rides. My husband loves all rides. My son is a little less adventurous, and I have to say I tend to lean towards my son’s sense of adventure – just…cautious. Two years ago, we visited the fair, and it was one of the first times our son was able to ride alone on some of the rides. At age 5 (barely), I think he was a bit too young for the Fun House, but I think this year the boys will love it.

The animals. I remember a magic show several years ago, and I’m hoping it returns this year (because my kids will love it, and they can see rabbits up close.) There are petting areas, but also large animals that are part of the Livestock Shows

Funnel cake. Two years ago, I posted about the added topping we got on our funnel cake, and we weren’t fans. So I have to recommend just getting the straight up funnel cake with powdered sugar. Don’t stray from this, okay? 🙂 Just trust the photo I found from 2009.

Clogging. My day job is home of an internationally known clogging team. #fact. I love watching the cloggers, and I especially love clogging competitions. There is a competition one weekend of the fair and it’s SO entertaining!

Activities for all ages. My youngest child doesn’t mind watching things from her stroller, while my son has access to rides and games. My husband and I have a variety of rides that we enjoy, as well as the various exhibits. My whole family loves checking out the animals. There are cooking competitions, clogging competitions and live music. There is even an ice cream eating competition

Two years ago, my daughter was just a few months old. While I didn’t ride anything, I was able to walk around the fair with the family while she napped and I remember it was a really calm morning and so fun. (I think it was the second Saturday of the fair when we finally went.) This time I have a feeling she is going to be SO into it! She discovered rides a few weeks ago, and I believe she’ll be able to take on one or two next month.

Babywearing for the win, my friends.

  1. The NC Mountain State Fair is the best fair around. I like it better than the state fair in Raleigh. It has everything Raleigh has, just not eight or nine of them
