10 years (plus one month) ago, I went on a first date (which, it turns out, would be my last first date.) I met this guy online (which would not be surprising in 2014, but was still a little different in 2004.) We started with a movie (Garden State) and followed the movie with dinner at Tupelo Honey. We walked around downtown, found ourselves at a coffee shop and just wandered all over downtown Asheville.
Our first date lasted over 7 hours.
I remember texting him the next day. I knew there was an underlying rule of no contact for at least 24 hours, but he texted me when he got home that night, so I thought it was fine to communicate the day after. (Apparently I was a rule breaker.)
There was something about this guy. I had another date with a different guy set up that weekend, and I canceled it. Nothing could really top the date I’d just been on.
Less than a week later, we went on our second unofficial date – a show at the Grey Eagle where my friend Daniel was playing.
And then we just fell into a routine of seeing each other mainly on Saturdays or Sundays since back in 2004, I was filming high school football every Friday night.
Three years later we would be married. And that was 7 years ago today.
It’s been a fun 7 years and I’m excited to see what the next
10 – 20 – 30 – 50 years brings us.
