A big birthday

This past weekend, I celebrated a pretty big birthday.

I turned 40.

I think I’m supposed to feel bad about that? I don’t know. I was excited for my birthday weekend, because birthdays are exciting and I believe in celebrating them. I felt the love on Facebook and through text and phone calls. A small group of friends and family joined me for a LaZoom tour in Asheville (on Saturday), and on Sunday (my actual birthday), we had a small group of friends join us for a potluck dinner at our house.

It was good.

My birthday tends to fall over Homecoming weekend (and for those who have kept up, I work for my alma mater and at one point it was my job to plan Homecoming.) This year was one of those times that my birthday and Homecoming collided and it was a lot of fun. I had a great time going from event to event, but I was also happy to head home and straight to the LaZoom tour. 🙂 If you are local and haven’t been on the comedy tour, I highly recommend it. I love their holiday tour, and have done the regular comedy tour three times (maybe four?? Definitely three.)

And of course there was cake.

I really do think this next year is going to be a good one. I have goals and I want to make this one of my best years yet. I want to travel more, run at least one half marathon (which was really my goal this past year, but sadly did not happen) and take care of myself while also caring for my family. I can honestly say that I don’t take the greatest care of myself – starting with my sleep habits.

So here’s to a good year and more sleep.
