all in a night’s work

I was in Hancock Fabrics this afternoon (my lunch break – someone in the office actually thought I was out “making curtains,” rather than just buying fabric for curtains.) Anyway. I was looking for fabric to make my brother’s curtain. He needs a large curtain to cover a leaky window. Sand gets in and it gets messy. He requested 4 feet wide by 8 feet in length. I found the perfect remnant. It’s a dark brown upholstery material, and it’s almost a faux suede material. Because it was a remnant, it was on sale for $8 per yard. And it was 60% off!! I scored the fabric for $10.22!

While I was looking through the remnants, this striped material caught my eye and I grabbed it. Didn’t have a clue as to what I’d make with it. Actually, this was the first time I had purchased fabric (even though I’ve owned my sewing machine for a few months.) I did buy muslin that one time….from Wal-Mart….but I haven’t used the sewing machine since then.

Until tonight!

Check. it. out.

I’m so excited I can barely contain myself. It only took me an hour and 15 minutes. The machine kept missing stitches, I forgot how to thread it. I was a total beginner.

Keep in mind, the pillow isn’t perfect, but it’s pretty darn good for my first try!

Now, other crafty things from this week (all nighttime projects too) include my Mother’s Day cards for my mom and grandma. (Sorry for the ladies who got store-bought cards! I hope to be better next year.) These two cards took me about an hour on Saturday night to make….

Similar cards, but I love the chipboard that makes up the “mom”….I love a little glitter 🙂

If I get out of work at a decent time tomorrow, I can work on Jason’s curtain. Otherwise, it’ll have to wait until Thursday. Tomorrow night’s a big night with the Lost! season finale!
