We’re winding down January and a (mostly) eat-in challenge for the month. I did pretty well not eating out for this month, (except for one planned celebration lunch, and one or two times I forgot my food at home.) The key – for me – is to have quick options that I can store at work. I have a small refrigerator and freezer in my office, so I was pretty excited to try Alpha Foods burritos, which are plant-based and high in protein.

If you’re in my area (Asheville), I found the burritos at Publix. (You can use the Alpha Foods website to see where their products are offered in your area!) I was able to find all four flavors, and I’m looking forward to trying their pot pies in the future (sadly, those are not available for me yet.) The burritos come in Mexicali, Fajita Chick’n, Philly Sandwich, and Pizza flavors so I grabbed one of each.

I’m really impressed with the portion size. For me, this is the perfect size burrito for lunch. (Pictured here is the burrito before it was cooked.)

They are each made with a non-dairy cheese and do have a meat-like texture. Looking at the photos on the packaging, and also the actual burrito after cooking it for a minute – I really couldn’t tell this wasn’t real meat. We’ve been fairly intentional the past month trying to select meatless food options for dinner at least once or twice a week, and I’d love to incorporate more plant-based meals in our meal plan. I love that I have these as a lunch back-up.

Each burrito contains 11 grams of protein (which always helps me stay fuller longer!) They are free of GMOs, cholesterol, hormones, corn syrup, artificial preservatives, and all animal products. Yet, they are so flavorful!

If you want to get the wrap cooked a little more, you could press the burrito in a panini press for the perfect grill marks – but I don’t have a panini press at my office, so I’m going to keep it real in this post. I need quick, filling, healthy and flavorful – these burritos are all of those things.
