Around here…January 2019
I can’t believe that we’re barely a week into January. Even though I just typed January 2018, I feel like the new year passed a while ago. Christmas break really flew by – and how is it almost two weeks AFTER Christmas??
We started school (and work) on Wednesday, and it was chaos pretty quickly. My husband traveled from Wednesday, coming home Friday afternoon. The kids traded fevers before he left, and I had to scramble to get my mom to keep our daughter for a morning so I could go to work for a few hours. (I can easily work from home while she naps, which is what I did that day.) She was all clear to go to daycare the following day, and we have no idea why she and her brother had fevers for the short periods of time.
I’ve decided to try not to eat out as much this month. I have gotten back into the habit of eating lunch out at least once or twice a week, plus we order dinner in about once a week, and it all adds up. January is a great time for me to reset, so I’ve been so good about not eating lunch out – you know, six days in. I did buy my daughter and I pizza last night, but the boys were out and the pizza covered more than one meal. In the end, it was fairly cost effective (and I used cash from something I bought last spring and returned.)
I am still working on my new year resolutions/goals. I am working hard at losing weight (I’m actually doing Weight Watchers again, but writing it all down because I can’t be trusted with their app), I’m running consistently, and around the house I’m decluttering like someone who has binge-watched the Marie Kondo series on Netflix (which, I’ll be honest, I did watch today while I hung items for consignment.) But in my head I have even bigger goals for this year. I want to save more money, elevate some parts of my life, have fun with my family. I’m pretty sure I’ll share it all here to keep myself accountable.
And the weather around here has been wild! So much rain, and today it was in the mid-60s. This weekend it was sunny, and I didn’t know how to deal with that. Our leaves are wreaking havoc on my allergies, so I’ve tried to stay in more today, but man…I really wanted to be outdoors. At the moment, we have snow in the forecast for next weekend, but I’m sure that’ll change.
We signed our son up for basketball again. The biggest difference this year is practices are during the week. Today I received a text that his team’s practice would be Tuesday nights. I let the coach know that we actually have cub scouts on Tuesdays, and we’re waiting to hear if he can be moved to a different team that practices on a different night. We’ve already paid for scouts, and I was assured that they would work with our schedule before I registered him. It’s so frustrating, though.
My son is only in first grade and I feel like he has such a busy schedule! I know I’m not the only parent that feels this, and if he can’t play basketball, it will be fine with me. I know he wants to do both, but it’s just so much. I almost feel guilty that our daughter isn’t involved in something like gymnastics or dance. Then I have to remember she is only TWO. When did my life become all about their organized activities? It’s nuts.
And, finally, last week we went over to Biltmore to check out the lights. We went on New Year’s Eve and it was pretty spectacular. We got one final family photo of the year and I hope I can get more pictures of the four of us this year!
How has your year been so far?
