the beginning of maternity leave

Today was my last day of work. I had planned on working up until McLittle was born, in anticipation he’d come on or around his due date. That didn’t happen. In fact, the doctor I saw this past Monday was surprised I was still working. (I guess some people have a tendency to take themselves out of work early? Once again, I find myself lucky to not feel like I had to leave work.) Kenny commented yesterday on how McLittle could possibly come if I’d just. slow. down.

So this is me slowing down.

It feels weird knowing I’m not going back to work on Monday. It was odd changing my voicemail and out of office reply (for my email) to reflect that I’ll be back at the office at the end of November. I’m sure time will fly, though. And I still have a few work-related things I have to do in regards to claims I have to make for my maternity leave, etc., but those can’t be done until Monday.

We did a little bit of grocery shopping this evening and ran into two people Kenny knew. They asked how I was feeling, and overall I still feel good, but I feel like I’m walking around with no purpose. There’s no baby, I’m not working, and all I have left to do is just be. Which would be fine, except I had our digital cable box moved downstairs this week (long, long story) and I’m not even watching television at this point.

I did work on my pregnancy scrapbook today. I have to get one more pack of page protectors to really have enough, and then I can place the photos in the book. The weekly updates are in, and that was one of the hardest parts. (I also had to switch books, but that’s another post for another day.)

If I’m still pregnant tomorrow (likely), I’ll blog about the nursery. We’re still waiting on the rug for it, but it’s pretty complete. And I feel good about it.

We have very few plans for this weekend – I guess that’ll force me to relax. I have a doctor’s appointment at the beginning of the week, and I’m now wondering if McLittle will make his appearance on Monday, which is also Michael Jackson’s birthday. It’s no secret that Kenny is a huge MJ fan, so maybe McLittle is a fan too?

We’ll just have to wait and see…
