big weekend!

It’s a big weekend in our house. My husband turns 30 on Tuesday, and we’re celebrating with a cookout. Our first “real” cookout (not first real party.) We have about 20 of our closest friends coming for dinner. I’ve baked two cakes, and watched one fall apart after the icing was put on (so I patched it with more icing) and pieced the other cake together this morning, after one of the layers decided to stick to the pan. I have yet to finish the second cake (it gets a maple flavored icing, and I’m going to work on it later.) I’ve also made a ginormous pasta salad. I may have gotten a little carried away with the vegetables last night….

My sister-in-law came up last night, and she’s also been cooking (a different pasta salad) and Chloe has been sure to entertain her.

Bele Chere is happening downtown this weekend, and we’re heading there in about an hour to get lunch, and check out the crafty stuff. (For those of you who aren’t familiar with Bele Chere, it’s been known as one of the largest free street festivals in the southeast.) I had to leave work last night when one of the bands started playing right outside of our building. They scaled back this year – 6 stages to 4 stages and there are fewer vendors, but it looked nice when I was walking through yesterday afternoon.

I ran 9 miles (walked some of it) this morning with one of our friends and the husband. It was amusing and exhausting.

I have no idea what we’re doing on Sunday, but I can bet that it’ll involve sleeping. I’m already tired, and it’s only 11 a.m. on Saturday.

And pictures are a given this weekend 🙂
