birthdays in upstate New York

So I’m in New York. I flew out of Asheville yesterday at 5:45 a.m. and ran for my life in Atlanta and Detroit (only to be delayed in Atlanta) so I could catch my flights. Sadly, my husband had to stay behind.

Oh, and yesterday? Was my birthday.

It’s actually been a fun trip. My grandma has been in rare form. We went to dinner at Olive Garden (with my dad and stepmom) and Gail (my stepmom) and I had a couple of much-needed drinks before we headed to my cousin’s wedding reception hall to help with set-up.

I was awake at 4 a.m. yesterday, and didn’t go to bed until midnight. Talk about a long day. During that time, though, I realized that I think I get a lot of my sense of humor (and bluntness) from my grandmother. She just says things that are so funny. I’ve been texting them to a couple of friends, so I can try to remember them all. Tonight, though, she was walking out of the rehearsal with a bottle of wine (a gift) and she said, “I am going to go home and tie one on.” Later she looked at me in the back seat of the car and said, “Where’s YOUR booze?” When we told her that our wine was being shipped she said, “Oh, I’m going to drink mine. Not ship it.” šŸ™‚

Love that woman.

So it was a busy day filled with a lot of family members that I generally see about once a year. Today was filled with more family get-togethers, a trip to my grandma’s farm (bittersweet since the farm was sold earlier this year) and a trip to get a pedicure, that left me in serious pain – and bleeding. I think I’ll have more on that this weekend. I need to review the place so others in this area will learn from my pain!
