Birthdays and running on low

It has been a MONTH and we’re barely into October.

We celebrated my birthday this past weekend. It was a really great day. My brother was in town, friends came in from out of town to help celebrate, and it was pretty low-key. This was the first time in three(?) years I’ve been home to celebrate. (Last year I was home, but it was Homecoming weekend, and my husband and son camped out the Saturday night, giving me a night home with the baby.) We like to go all out for birthdays and this was one of my favorites.

I ran a race on Saturday morning. I rang in my birthday with a killer 5-mile race. It’s my favorite local race (the Thomas Wolfe 8k), and I seriously doubted my judgement about a mile into the race. And then at mile 4.5 I wondered how I managed to get my brother to run it too. It was tough, and my body is still trying to recover.

(The race runs through a cemetery and the tree is so fall-like, even if it is in the 80s this week. What the heck, weather? Where’s fall?)

At work, we’re so close to launching our new website. Like…it’ll launch this week and it could possibly be a little incomplete. (I’m at Starbucks now working, but I needed a break from all the working.)

And in addition to the work website, it’s also what I like to call blogging season. You’re going to see a higher than average number of sponsored posts this month. I’d apologize, but my checking account is thanking this little blog. Childcare is expensive, yo.

Have I mentioned our daughter started a new daycare last month? And that it’s a couple hundred dollars more a month than we were paying before? And we’re still paying after school for our son? We literally spend more on childcare than our mortgage.

So I’m not sorry about my blog being my side hustle.

I am sorry that I’m not taking care of myself like I should be. I’m exhausted and for the second time in a month, I’m getting sick. Sore throat, sinus issues. Just all around not well. I’m diffusing eucalyptus during the day and just wishing away the sickness at night. It doesn’t help that my daughter thinks she’s a newborn and her sleep is crap.

Oh, but she’s walking now. Like last week she was taking a few steps at a time and this week she prefers walking over crawling and it’s crazy having an extra body walking around on two legs. It still surprises me to see her walking in the living room.

This has inadvertently turned into a stream of consciousness post. 🙂 I didn’t intend that, but gosh those types of posts are freeing.

How are you on this Monday? Me? I’m drowning in work and running on empty. Send caffeine.
