I was really excited about this review. First off, this product is made in Asheville. Second, my husband had tried some of their products, but that was a while ago and I had never tried them. And third, beer for your hair? Who isn’t intrigued by that?

Have you ever heard that beer can be good for your hair? I’d heard of it, but I’ve never actually tried it. BRÖÖ Craft Beer Thickening Shampoo & Conditioner has malted barley from beer that nourishes, repairs and protects hair. The hops in beer are full of essential oils and can help protect your hair from stresses in the environment. Just think of all of the damage we do to our hair each day – and the elements it has to be up against.

To be completely honest, I was more concerned about the smell. I mean do I really want to show up at work one morning smelling of a great craft brew? Probably not. (And I’m not an actual beer drinker. If you live in Asheville, you understand what a shock this might be. I love our breweries, but I actually don’t love the taste of beer.) It turns out, I didn’t have to worry about the smell. You aren’t going to smell like beer – your hair will actually smell pretty nice. My husband has been using the invigorating shampoo and it has peppermint in it. (It also makes your scalp feel a little tingly, which is interesting.)

As someone who spends a lot of money having her hair professionally colored, I do have some concern over whether or not a shampoo and conditioner is color-safe. This one is. In fact, it’s pHbalanced, color-safe, PETA Vegan and Cruelty-free certified.

While I do pay someone to color my hair, I really don’t use other high-end products. This shampoo and conditioner still left my hair feeling soft, looking clean, and it didn’t strip away the color. I love that. I’ve also been dealing with some random hair issues since having my second baby and the thickening shampoo and conditioner has been great with the volume of my hair.

And can I talk about the packaging for just a moment? I’m loving the company’s marketing team. Enjoy responsibly! And the warning on the back says “For external use. No, you can’t drink it!” I want to meet the person who forced them to add that warning.

If you’re not local, BRÖÖ is sold at Walmart. To find a location near you, visit BRÖÖ’s website. You can also order it online. (If you are local, it’s sold in several stores in Asheville!)

  1. I have heard about the many benefits of using beer on hair, so this line makes sense. I love that it is cruelty free and made without all of those yucky chemicals.

  2. I have never heard or tried this before but I’m intrigued to try it now. I like the sounds that its cruelty free and vegan. Heading to Walmart when my shampoo runs out.

  3. I had not even seen Broo brand before. I will have to take a peek. I know that my current shampoo and condition are not really helping in the ways they used to. Will see if Broo can rescue my hair!
