can I have both?

Today, during my lunch hour, the husband and I looked at couches and chairs for our living room. It was overwhelming, but we found two sets that we liked. And they’re both leather.

(We’re thinking of going with leather because we need something that will last a while and that we can clean easily. You have no idea how many times we’ve had red wine spilled on our cream colored – dry clean only – couch.)

Of course, if someone wants to talk me out of a leather couch, feel free to do so in the comments. I’m listening. However, learning to properly care for your leather couch is so much easier than any of the others!

Anyway. Tonight, the husband told me (and I agreed) that we need to focus on one house project – the kitchen counters or the furniture – and save for it before buying it. We don’t want to use money from our savings account, and we don’t use credit cards.

But I really want to save for both. Is that too much to ask for? New furniture AND an updated kitchen in 2011?

I didn’t think so.

So we may not have our new furniture before February 27 (but maybe we will if our tax refund is nice to us….) But at least I know we won’t be throwing ourselves into debt once we do get both.
