Introducing probiotics to my cat (and a DIY catnip pillow)

It’s official. We have a teenager in our house…a teenage cat. Last week marked 10 years since we adopted Chloe, and they estimated her to be about 2-3 years old. So we’re going with 13-years-old. And in that 13 years, I’ve learned a LOT about being a cat owner. First, she kind of owns us. Second, her needs are changing at a quick pace, and it’s important that we stay on top of them so she can continue to live a healthy and happy life.
We all know that a happy cat equals a happy household, right?
Chloe has been on Purina® cat food since we brought her home. We’ve tried different types of food, and I want to be sure that she can handle the food that we give her. She’s on a thyroid medication, and I feel like as she gets older things seem to be getting more complicated. It leaves me wondering if she is she getting all of the nutrients she needs.
Purina® Pro Plan® SAVOR® Probiotics at Pet Supplies Plus offers advanced nutrition that my cat needs to help her live a healthy, active life. The dry food comes in a variety of flavors and textures. The dry products are also made with at least 38% protein to help meet my cat’s nutritional needs.
I’ve been hearing a lot about probiotics for myself, so I was interested to hear that they can be good for our pets! The probiotics in select dry Pro Plan® Savor® formulas can balance the levels of bacteria in my cat’s intestines, leading to a positive impact on digestive health. The strain of probiotic in the select Pro Plan® Savor® food is also a strain found in numerous human food and drinks.
I took my daughter along to Pet Supplies Plus to pick out food and a toy for Chloe (because when it’s your cat’s adoption birthday, you celebrate.) My toddler loved walking through Pet Supplies Plus and has since asked to go back to the store to look at the fish and the cat toys.
Sometimes I’m nervous to change food with Chloe. She actually tried to claw her way into the bag of Purina® Pro Plan® SAVOR® Probiotics. Purina® has been fueling pets since 1986, and I don’t have any problems feeding my cat Purina®.
While Chloe is getting older, she’s still a playful cat. Both of my kids really wanted to give her presents for her birthday, and who am I to deny a celebration? I let my daughter pick out a fishing pole for her at Pet Supplies Plus. I also told my son I would make Chloe a catnip toy/pillow. I don’t mind giving Chloe the smaller toys, but they tend to get lost under our couch or tv stand, and sometimes it’s harder for her to toss toys around. (She has a touch of arthritis.) I found a fabric remnant and made a really fast toy for her the other night – and she LOVES it!
What you need:
Fabric around 10 inches by 11 inches.
Poly-fil pillow stuffing
Catnip
I folded the fabric lengthwise with right sides together. Sew around two edges (a short edge and the long edge.) Clip the corners and turn your fabric so the right side is out. Stuff with the poly-fil and catnip. Sew along the third edge.
This toy took less than 10 minutes to pull together and it’s so fun to watch Chloe with it now.

You already know I love Chloe. And thanks for introducing me to this food. I may give it a try. All of my cats have random digestion problems so who knows who it might help!
