Cleaning is a part of my goals for the new year. (It even made it to number 3 of my 5 goals – not resolutions – for 2014.) With the new year and a new job, I’m doing things a little differently.

My goals:

1. Focus on the kitchen daily. Not when the floor gets gross or the dishes pile up.

2. Sweep and mop frequently, instead of only when we’re having guests.

3. Don’t let the laundry climb the walls. (Please tell me I’m not the only one who has laundry that takes on a life of its own.)

How do I plan on doing this? (And, really, how can we all take control of cleaning in our homes?)

It’s fairly simple. We have cleaning product (such as the Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle) and sponges in each room so there’s no running around for products. If I notice something that needs to be cleaned in the bathroom, I may take care of it during or after my kiddo’s bath time. He spends at least 20 minutes playing in the tub, so I may as well clean mirrors and countertops if he’s not wanting me to play with him, right? I can clean the shower/tub after I bathe.

The kitchen is tended to every day. No more dishes piling up. I don’t want to wake up to them. Dishes are washed before we go to bed each night. Floors are dealt with on the weekends, when we have more time. We sweep and then I call on my friend Mr. Clean to help with mopping. Mixing a few drops of Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle in a bucket of hot water is all it takes. For tougher places like my stove top, I use a couple of drops directly on the stove.

The laundry? Well, Mr. Clean can’t help me there, as much as I want him to. That’s totally up to me (and I am currently on a roll of washing a load of laundry as soon as that particular basket is full, instead of waiting until Saturday to do 5 or 6 loads of laundry.)

Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle can be used mixed with a gallon of water or for tougher jobs, a few drops on the countertop, stove top or floor will usually take care of the problem. (You just have to also rinse with water if it’s a surface you’re going to be setting food on.)

Do you have any cleaning goals/resolutions for the new year? Care to share them with me? I can obviously use all of the tips I can get.

  1. I am right there with you on the whole laundry situation. I have no idea how we wear SO much clothing in a span of the week but I feel as though I am constantly washing something for someone. Laundry has to have it’s own schedule!

  2. I am good with the cleaning I like that better than the laundry any day lol. I mom my floors twice a week but with kids and all this rug. We hope to save and buy some hardwood….but then again that might be worse lol

  3. I have not tried this product before, but with two boys, I may certainly start! Laundry is one thing I stay on top of because I find it relaxing, but the dishes and kitchen floor, not so much. I need to work on those.

  4. I need to get better at mopping on a regular basis. I will sweep, no problem, but unless there’s a visible stain or spill on the floor I can manage to talk myself out of mopping!

  5. I love discovering new cleaning products! I haven’t seen this on shelves yet so I’ll definitely have to look for it. For the new year I just plan on staying on top of the cleaning more since I’ll have a newborn in the house again.

  6. My resolution is to clean on a schedule. I like your tips for keeping things in the room where you use them. The laundry issue I’m not going to tackle but you’re not alone.

  7. Keeping a set of cleaning supplies in each place you need them is a great tip! No more running downstairs to get something! (’cause I’m lazy and won’t bother)

Just grab that Windex while the little ones are bathing and make those toothpaste splatters disappear. Or pour a few drops of Liquid Muscle around the bottom of the toilet and wipe away the little boy dribbles and that awful eau de pee aroma.

I’ve been doing this trick for a couple years and it’s really helped me stay on top of the filth. Unfortunately, with two boys and all their little friends, the filth is always one step ahead of me.

  8. I am hoping to get rid of lots of stuff I don’t need this year. We have a small house and I got to get rid of stuff to add more new stuff.

I am also hoping to get the kids more involved with chores this year!
