A Clifford Valentine (and a birthday party idea)
I bought Clifford the Big Red Dog cookie cutters on eBay last year. I was trying to decide if I was going to do a Clifford birthday party or the Sesame Street party (and Sesame Street won out for the second birthday bash.) I’m still on the fence if we’re going to do a Clifford party this summer, so I wanted to be sure I got some use out of the cookie cutters!
Enter Valentine’s Day. And why this post is so late. Daycare was closed Friday, and I had a feeling it would be closed (due to ice), so I didn’t even bother making these on Thursday. I did them Saturday, in preparation for drop-off on Monday.
I used the basic sugar cookie recipe from Real Simple magazine, and added a little red food coloring to make them pink.
The bottom right photo is the end result.
I packaged them in treat bags I purchased from Pick Your Plum.) I sealed the bags with washi tape (also from Pick Your Plum.)
I’m super pleased with how they turned out. The only thing I wasn’t anticipating was the oil from the cookies to leak through at all. The bags are somewhat small, but I fit a Clifford cookie and a dog bone cookie in each bag with no problem.
My son is only 2.5 years old, and he goes to an in-home daycare. Two of the children are under age 1, and there’s a girl who is 1.5. (There are also two school-aged kids who come after school.) I made up 10 packages for everyone, and the kids under 1 I’m not too concerned about – I figure their parents can have the cookies.
Did you make any fun Valentine’s crafts or treats this year? Did you have to do things a bit late like we did? Oh, and are you a fan of Clifford? I have to admit that I’m pretty fond of him.

Those are the cutest cookies ever!! I love them – and that is such a fun thing for the little ones!!
That is such a cool gift for younger kids! I’m going to see if I can find some Clifford cookie cutters so I can make some dog bone cookies to send to my niece’s preschool š
Great idea bring treats for in home daycare! My son attends one, and I never thought about sending treats for the other kids on holidays. Thanks for the idea!
Aww what a cute idea. We’ve all long loved Clifford in our house, so these would def. be a hit here. š
Those cookies turned out perfect! I always have really bad luck with them spreading out as they cook and the dog would look like a blob.
Those cookies are adorable. Nice to see Clifford is still around, I remember reading Clifford books when I was small š
I’m not hugely crafty and I’m not a good baker, so no home made Valentine gifts here. Those do look very cute, though.
They turned out well! And you got some extra use from them!!
My daughter was a HUGE Clifford (pun intended lol) fan when she was little. She would have went nuts for some Cliffard cookies!
Awww, these are SO cool! Way better than the traditional card. Yum!
These are just too cute! My daughter loved Clifford the big red dog when she was little!
These are really cute! We have missed Valentine’s Day parties at school for the last 2 years. Last year, we were in Jamaica for Valentine’s day with the family! This year, my father-in-law passed away and we spent Valentine’s Day in Tennessee with the family. One of these days we’re going to be here for Valentine’s day and I’m going to have to make Valentine’s day treats for my twins’ classes (we keep them in separate classes).
These Clifford cookies turned out super cute! What an easy way to add some fun to a basic sugar cookie recipe.
I so love Clifford and Emily Elizabeth. My boys haven’t watched Clifford in a while. Your cookies are so cute, and how creative to use them for Valentine’s Day! Pinned.
What a cute idea! I love how you added red for Clifford.
We had a Sesame Street party for my son’s second birthday too.
That turned out so cute! I had lots of ideas for Valentine’s day this year to try.
This is SO cute! I love the cookies! My son would be so excited!
Those cookies came out super cute! Most of the time my cookies look nothing like the cut outs by the time Im done!
My girls used to love Clifford. What a great party idea.
absolutely adorable! I love it!! Clifford is one of my all time fave characters
oh my gosh these are too cute. We aren’t allowed to bring homemade food to my daughter’s school but I wish I could
What a cute idea! My son wasn’t allowed to bring homemade treats to school but he would have loved to have brought something like that! He loves Clifford.
Super cute cookies and the packaging is adorable! Very creative and everyone loves Clifford!
This is an adorable idea for a party! I throw my dog a birthday party every year and got some very cheap doggy-shaped cookie cutters on clearance from Michael’s a few years ago. I think Clifford is the best cartoon ever š
We love Clifford! What a cute treat for a Clifford themed party or valentine’s day!
This is such a cute party idea! I was thinking about doing a puppy party for my toddler because he is definitely in a dog stage right now! Loves furry friends.
I love the creativity you used in making those cookies. I hope the kids enjoyed eating them too…
What an adorable treats idea – and who doesn’t love Clifford the big red dog? Those cutters would make adorable homemade pet treats too
Oh that is the cutest thing. I love Clifford.
Those are really cute! We have Clifford training pants right now (Food Lion brand).
What a cute party idea! We love Clifford and I would totally make those cookies for my daughter just for a regular treat š
