I had a thought last week – I don’t have a wreath to fill the void between Valentine’s Day or Easter. And all of the sudden, I just HAD to have a St. Patrick’s Day wreath! I ended up making my own and love it so much!
I stopped by my ceramics teacher’s house last Tuesday, only to learn she didn’t have anything with shamrocks. I went on eBay and found a set of 4 shamrock ornaments, which were pretty perfect for what I had in mind. (I purchased the ceramic pieces from this seller.)
On Monday, I hit up a craft store and pulled all my supplies together:
2 rolls of ribbon (which I scored for 60% off. It was 9 yards long!)
Metal wreath
Paintbrushes
Ceramic ornaments
Paint
I painted the ornaments, and then repainted them on Tuesday night so they look like this:
I wrapped the metal wreath with the ribbon. I secured the ribbon with safety pins – and it worked so much better than glue (like I’ve used on other wreaths.) The metal wreath was perfect for this project. I almost went with the grapevine wreath, and I’m so glad I didn’t!
My ceramics teacher made the bow for me. I have so much ribbon left over – I may have to make another wreath, without the ornaments.
I secured the bow with a bit of glue. And then I glued the ornaments in place. (I used my hot glue gun. I would normally use the hot glue gun AND tacky glue, with a bit of cotton, to make it even more secure.)
I love it! (Oh, and I just happened to have paint. When you’ve painted ceramics for 14 years, you tend to have paint just lying around for projects like these!)
This happens to be project 3 in my goal to complete 12 projects this year! See project 1 and project two in previous posts.
