consignment shopping
We’re fortunate in our area to have not only a TON of consignment shops, but also some pretty large sales (that happen a couple of times each year.) I mentioned last week that I went to Munchkin Market a week ago and was left a little underwhelmed with what I bought. This past weekend was Wee Trade, and it did not disappoint.
I took my mom with me, since my husband had grad school work to do, and as soon as we walked into the expo center, I mentioned that I didn’t think I could handle it. It was huge.
In the end, we found a lot of books, an activity mat (which I’ve determined will be a great cat toy), a Baby Bjorn (for $19!) and Bob, the wonder stroller.
I had heard great things about the BOB strollers. They’re great for runners, and from what I’ve read, people love them. I’d checked them out online and knew that it was on the wish list in the back of my mind, but probably not something we’d register for or actually buy. I had also seen a few on craigslist, but the lowest price was $225? Still a little pricey. But my mom and saw Bob, and I was showing her that it was the one that I had checked out online….and let’s just say that she didn’t have to twist my arm when she said she was going to get it for us. (Now we have to get the infant car seat adapter so we can use it this fall.)
I love consignment shopping. I love that we have a consignment store right across from our neighborhood (seriously – I found clothes for a dollar a piece last week.) I’m definitely going to feel sticker shock when we have to start paying full price for the high-end items (like furniture.)
What do you recommend we seek out second-hand? Anything? Anyone as excited about consignment sales as I am?
Edited: Let me clarify that we are purchasing the crib and car seats new. Everything else is up in the air. Don’t worry. We know what we’re getting into with the crib and car seats.
Buy the car seat new. Never, never buy a used car seat.
