Day 2 of Thanks #NaBloPoMo #30DaysOfThanks
I mentioned yesterday that I was going to be posting thankful things every day this month. (Well, mostly daily. Sometimes I may combine a few days into one post. It’s all good.) If you’re up for the challenge of recognizing thankfulness this month, feel free to link up before. The link-up is going to be open through the end of November.
Day 2: I’m thankful for the good educators I’ve had in my life. When I was in high school, I was an assistant for one of my math teachers. As a teacher’s assistant, I helped make tests, grade quizzes and help students with math problems. It was during that time that I thought I wanted to be a math teacher when I grew up. (When I was in college, I changed majors when I made my first “B” in a math course. I was so naive.)
That teacher retired this past week. It just so happened that my husband has been working at her school for the past few years, so she – and several other teachers – have been keeping up with my life through him. I was able to see her (and other teachers) at a retirement party in her honor this weekend, and it was just really cool.
In this world of Facebook and other social media, have you reconnected with any former teachers? I’m Facebook friends with my 6th grade math teacher. It’s a little surreal.
How cool is that? My sister’s two boys both had an elementary school teacher who taught her husband — their dad. I have the utmost respect for teachers. And those who love it and pour themselves into it day after day. I certainly remember the teachers — from 1st grade through law school — that touched my spirit and gave me a little something extra.
No I have not connected with any of my teachers. I have heard about some of them from others.
I never did connect with any of my teachers on social media, but my daughter is friends with the lunch lady and crossing guard! It’s nice to be able to reconnect with those who made such a good impression on our young selves.
That is a fantastic thing to be thankful for! My mom homeschooled me for Kindergarten through 8th grade, and I’m SO thankful for her! But I had a very influential teacher in high school, as well as one in college – both of them totally shaped who I am today, and I AM thankful for them, too!
Yes I have reconnected with no only my elementary school teachers as well as those I have had throughout my education including college.
That’s awesome! I have not connected with any of my old teachers but remember my 6th grade teacher well. She was the one that I will never forget and love to reconnect with.
Math was a dreaded subject for me in school. More than the difficulty in understanding it, I think I was scared of even thinking about it! All the #s and calculations- was just not my thing! How nice of you to meet your teacher after all these years! Must have been a great experience š
I’ve dine NaBlo a few times. It’s always great to get the creative words flowing. I have to set out November since I do NaNoWriMo.
I did look up my former 1st and 5th grade teacher (same person, she switched grades). She wasn’t online though…not by her real name anyway. š She was such a great teacher, it would have been nice to say hi…though who even knows if she’d remember me after all of these years!!
