desserts……

I’m a big fan of desserts. The easier, the better, if I’m going to make it (which probably explains my obsession with root beer floats this week. Not a healthy obsession.)

This week’s topic in “show us your life” over on Kelly’s blog is all about desserts. I just made my mom’s birthday cake last week and have pictures of it, so we’re going to focus on that today.

The black forest chocolate cake.

What you need:
Chocolate cake mix (and all that goes into making that – pick your favorite chocolate cake.)
1 container of whipped cream (I generally go for the Lite Cool Whip. You know, because it’s “healthier”)
1 can of cherry pie filling (Again, I sometimes go “lite” for this one.)

And then it’s easy! Bake the chocolate cake. When it’s nice and cool, use the whipped cream as a “frosting” to join the layers together. I also put some of the cherries on the bottom layer, just to spread them around. Throw your top layer of the cake on top of the bottom, and finish covering the cake with whipped cream. Then pour the remaining cherry filling on top.

It should come out looking like this:

Messy, and gooey, but oh-so-good.

I made this cake before work last week. The mistake I made was not allowing it to cool properly, before putting it together. The cake split down the middle. It still tasted great, but it definitely looked a lot worse.
