DIY Mini LOVE handprint canvas – perfect for baby’s room

It’s time for another craft destash. This time I’ve made something for the baby’s room – a mini LOVE handprint canvas. (Well, a collection of canvasses to create one picture.) I found a pack of miniature canvases when I was decluttering our downstairs room. They are only a few inches big. I don’t even know what I was thinking when I bought them years ago. I just knew that I had to figure out how to use them.

I painted them gray with acrylic paint I had in my garage (from my ceramics painting days.) Unfortunately, these canvases take a lot of paint. I did at least 4 coats of paint.

My initial goal was to paint the baby’s hand and put her handprint on one canvas for the “o”. That didn’t go so well – the paint just wouldn’t show up. I ended up tracing her hand and then painting the outline purple.

I have gold chipboard letters and I added those to each (again, my initial thought was to paint the L, V and E with purple paint.)

The chipboard letters had an adhesive on the back, so I’m going to see how long they’ll stick. I’ll probably end up gluing them on. And I’m going back and forth deciding where I want these to hang – in her room, or in my office? At the moment, they’re in her room.

Super easy, and while my initial plans didn’t work out as I had planned, they’re cute and I don’t mind. I also have a reminder of how small (yet chubby) her little hands are at 10 months.

Oh, I also went back and painted the purple so it was a little darker and covered one spot where you could see the pen mark from tracing. These are so little and so cute!

  1. What a perfect destash project! I have to admit that when I look in the back of my craft closet I’m always surprised by what I find and sometimes wonder what project I originally bought the item for. Looks super cute!

  2. What a fun idea. My college roommate just became a foster parent, this would be a great for them to do with each kid.

  3. So sweet, what a fun way to save your baby’s handprint. They grow so fast, this will be an adorable reminder. Love how you used your craft items for the destash challenge 🙂 Pinned
