DIY Snow Globe and my love for “While You Were Sleeping”

I have a long list of holiday movies that I’ve already started watching in preparation of Christmas. Our tree is going up this weekend, and the crafts are being made. Every year I have lofty ambitions, and since I’ve had kids, my lengthier craft projects have been put to the side. This year I decided to try something simple.

First, have you seen “While You Were Sleeping”? I have owned this movie for years and it’s one of my favorites. It’s the perfect holiday romantic comedy and can be watched over and over and over (just like I’ve done.)

In one scene, Jack and Lucy are talking and he asks if she could go to one city, what would it be? She responds “Florence.” Towards the end of the movie, Jack gives Lucy an early wedding gift – a snow globe with the city of Florence in the globe. It’s a sweet moment, and who wouldn’t love a guy who thought of small details like that?

And let’s be real here. My kids love snow globes. There’s just something about a snow globe that’s pretty magical, and I thought it would be fun to create one.

What you need:

  • 1 large mason jar
  • 1 wire Christmas tree (I found several in the Target one spot, but I also found them at three craft stores in my area.)
  • Glitter (I got the blue from AC Moore)
  • Clear glue (again, Target)
  • Super glue and Mod Podge if you want to really make the base sticky.
  • Warm water

Glue your Christmas tree to the “base” – the lid. Let it dry fully. I actually used Mod Podge first, and went back and used super glue. I then let it dry for a couple of hours before immersing it in water.

Pour your bottle of clear glue into the mason jar. Then fill the jar with warm water. Stir. Finally, sprinkle glitter into the jar – careful to not add too much (rookie mistake on my part!) A little glitter goes a long way! Finally stir and put the tree lid in, and seal. Shake over a sink so you’re 100% sure it isn’t going to leak.

And then enjoy!

This DIY snow globe is SO simple to make and really pretty! Finally put glitter to good use (and not get it everywhere when the jar is sealed.) This is part of the #ChristmasMoviesHop
