a downtown Asheville kind of day
Yesterday started with pumpkin pancakes. (Actually, it started with a walk to our polling site, voting and THEN pumpkin pancakes.)
I actually need to blog that recipe because it’s really good – and the last two times we’ve had pancakes, they’ve been pumpkin. Perfect for fall.
After a few errands, we gathered everyone and headed downtown to check things out. We were originally going to go to Loretta’s for lunch, and then decided Woolworths would be better for seating and variety.
A few of us sat at the counter, while the others grabbed a table.
There was a lot of perusing while waiting for lunch to be made. (There are art booths set up throughout with a lot of local artists’ work.) And after lunch, we checked out more artists downstairs, where grandma decided to try a hat on in one of the booths.
We then wandered out of Woolworths, and towards Pack Square Park. Everyone loved the buildings. (They never get old to me.)
Our county building (on the left) and city hall (on the right), with the park in front of the buildings.
I love the little water features throughout the park.
And the statues.
We took some time to rest….
…before wandering again. The dome is actually First Baptist Church of Asheville (where my mom and other grandma are members.)
We then found Thomas Wolfe’s home…
…and I realized I’m not the only one in my family who loves the cell phone.
I really love the Jackson building.
And I think the Kress building is pretty, though I never get good photos of it.
I don’t know if I’ll ever understand how our city is able to sustain a wig shop.
It was a good day, followed by a busy, busy day at Biltmore (today.) Lots of photos coming this week from that visit.
I love exploring in my own backyard! Whenever we do, I remember how much I love it! It looks like you guys had a great time!
Great post, Jaime! Shows how much I still have to see and explore on my next trip to Asheville!
So I think we we invade, the kids are more apt to want the nature side of Asheville as opposed to the architecture, though I love old buildings! Glad you had a good time!
Haha I never wondered about the wig shop, but then again, I’ve been to Scandals on a Friday night. š
Can’t wait for the recipe post, the pumpkin pancakes sound awesome!
how pretty! and you know you have a whole stock of wigs at home Jaime..don’t try to fool us. ;o)
