Thanks to Dunkin’ Donuts for collaborating to help raise awareness for the MANNA Back-to-School Packs for Kids program! While I did receive a gift card in exchange for raising awareness, all opinions here are my own.
Several years ago, I was part of a Rotary club and we volunteered monthly at Asheville’s MANNA Food Bank. We spent Thursday evenings sorting and packing food at their facility, and I learned so much about the various programs they have in place. One program that I was most affected by was their Packs for Kids program. MANNA provides food assistance to students in 16 counties in Western North Carolina, and right now if you purchase a dozen donuts or a box of 50 munchkins at Dunkin’ Donuts, they’re donating money to MANNA’s Packs for Kids program.
At least one in four children do not have access to three full meals a day. MANNA’s Packs for Kids program identifies kids that are in need, and they send backpacks with food home with the kids – through the schools – on Fridays. They somehow even keep the program up throughout the summer.
I’ve not only volunteered for MANNA, but I also used to volunteer at a few of the elementary schools in our area. And now that my son is in elementary school, I see the need for agencies to help families in our area. In 2016-2017, MANNA provided packs for roughly 4800 students on Fridays throughout the school year.
Let that sink in a bit. 4800 kids did not have enough food at home for the weekend, without the help of our local food bank.
Our community is fortunate to have MANNA, and I’m happy to help them in every way I’m able to.
Also? My kids are happy to help when I ask them to. At least, they are happy to help in this case.
Now through August 25, if you visit an Asheville-based Dunkin’ Donuts, $1 from any 50-count munchkin or dozen donuts sold will go back to the MANNA Packs for Kids program.
And thanks to Dunkin’ Donuts, I also have a quick giveaway for a gift card! Just enter the Rafflecopter below. A winner will be selected by August 22.
