Create Earth Day bookmarks with this easy tutorial and template
We’re entering new crafting phases with my youngest child. She loves to create – and she’ll create for any holiday or special day. Close to her birthday is Earth Day and these are really fun for the kids that enjoy a good craft, reading, and celebrating the earth.
One thing to know about my child is she has a plethora of crafting supplies and every day she’s pulling them out to create something. You can ask her what she has planned, and she’ll tell you she’s “just going to create.” I’m here for it, and I also like to encourage her to create something she might be able to use (so I’m not recycling it so soon.) Recently she made flowers with foam and craft sticks, so it’s not unheard of for her to whip up a bookmark with craft paper and craft sticks.
Earth Day is April 22 – just a few days after my daughter’s big day! She’s also big on being outside and enjoying nature. We’ll be making a set of these bookmarks over the next few days, I’m sure.
What you need for these Earth Day bookmarks:
- Colored craft papers
- Pencil – to trace the template
- Craft glue
- Sharpie or gel pen
- A pair of scissors
- Popsicle/craft sticks
How to make the Earth Day bookmarks:
Step 1 – Select your colored paper and white cardstock paper for the Earth Day-themed bookmarks. The template includes patterns for the Earth, recycling symbol, a flower and a tree. Trace the patterns on the selected papers using a pencil and cut them out with your scissors. Use a sharpie or gel pen to color in the base of the eyes.
Step 2 – We’re starting with the Earth bookmark. Attach the green cutouts on the blue base around the outer edge.
Step 3 – Glue all three green parts by arranging them around the outer edge of the Earth.
Step 4 – Glue the eye cutouts slightly above the middle part of the Earth pattern.
Step 5- Glue the mouth cutout below the eyes and then glue the paper Earth pattern on a slightly bigger round cardstock paper cut from white cardstock.
Step 6 – Attach the paper Earth pattern on a craft stick to complete your bookmark.
Step 7 – Prepare the flower patterns from any colored paper of your choice.
Step 8 – Join the flower patterns to craft the flower.
Step 9 – Glue the flowers to the stem-leaf pattern.
Step 10 – Trace and cut out the tree patterns.
Step 11 – Glue the 2 tree patterns.
Step 12 – Then join that pattern with the trunk cutout to complete the paper tree.
Finally, attach all the paper creations to craft sticks to complete the bookmarks.
