end of an era
Today marked an end of an era. The end of Oliver. After weeks of visits to the vets, attempts to help Oliver, he finally decided he’d had enough. So the decision was made to take him to the vet one last time.
(This photo was taken in March)
Oliver celebrated 14 human years on earth. That made him freakishly old in dog years.
The thing about Oliver is that he never acted old until recently. For years, we hoped he would calm down when he got older. That didn’t happen until sometime in the last six months. And he got progressively worse in the past month. The poor dog always looked happy, though.
I want to mention that our vet was amazing, and there was a man with his two kids and their dog at the vet’s office when we arrived. The man quickly realized why we were there, and came over to talk to Oliver and pet him. So sweet….yet I get upset just thinking about that moment.
He really was an amazing dog.
So sorry to hear about Oliver, I can’t even imagine how you must feel. My dogs are only 6 1/2 but one of them is aging quickly and I’m reminded daily how much shorter a dog’s life span is.
Oh, Jaime! I’m just now seeing this. I’m so sorry to hear about Oliver. We just had to make this decision back in June. ((hugs))
hugs my friend, my heart breaks for you. i know it can’t make it better, but I’m happy you all got to spend so many happy years together.
