Fiddlin 5k race review #running #fitfluential #5k #runavl
This past weekend I ran the Fiddlin’ 5k again. I ran it with Carol last year. This was the third year for the race, and my time 30:32 last year. I knew that I’d been training harder and smarter, so I’ve been anxious to see what I could do.
The plan was to run with Kenny and Lucas (in his jogging stroller.) Kenny said he was going to run/walk it since he was so sick last week, and I asked if he’d be ok with me racing. He was cool with it, so I separated from them (they started in the back) and we just started running. I don’t remember any official start, which was odd. It just happened suddenly.
Last year I mentioned that the first mile seemed to drag. This year it didn’t seem so slow. I ran it in 9:05 (and last year’s was under 9 minutes.)
The long hill was still long. So incredibly long. I didn’t walk as much of it this time. My second mile was 10:34 (that hill is BRUTAL.)
The third mile is relatively flat and a slight downhill. Then you hit campus, there’s a sign that says Mile 3, but it’s misleading. You’re only at about 2.75. It’s an incredibly long incline to the finish – about a quarter mile. I’m not even exaggerating.
When I got close to the finish, I could see that the clock was still under 30 minutes and I got really excited and sped up.
My official time was 29:52. (That’s gun time. They don’t have a chip time for starting.)
I love the shirt this year. They had a women’s fit, they are light blue and just pretty. I ordered Lucas a Youth Small shirt. I need to wash it and see if it’ll shrink. He got such a kick out of seeing the musicians on the course.
The food and water at the end was minimal, but it was fine this time. For a 5k I don’t need to refuel a ton. There was plenty of entertainment and camaraderie. It was a fun race! (And I later learned about placing 3rd in my age group. YAY!)
Prior to the race, I warmed up for almost a half mile. Following my race, I turned around to go find Kenny and Lucas. I added another half mile. And that afternoon I ran 5 additional miles. I needed to get about 9 miles in this weekend, so I piecemealed my mileage together. (More on my virtual race later this week…if I ever get the shirt and medal in the mail.)
Have you set or met any fitness goals recently?
WOW WOW WOW!! way to go!!!!!! what a great race report
Thanks, Kim!!
Congrats on your third place win! I love the photos you took on your run. Did you take those WHILE you were running? They are so clear. Did you just use your phone camera? I’m running a race soon and would love to know! Thanks!!!
Thanks!! I did take the photos with my iPhone, while running. Occasionally I’ll slow down or stop briefly to get a still shot. I take a LOT of photos and use what comes out the clearest. The iPhone has always worked great for me for my running photos. (I have the iPhone 5.)
Thanks! I’m due for an upgrade in July and have been considering an iPhone. My Galaxy S4 would NEVER take such clear photos in motion. That just sealed the deal for me – iPhone it is! THANKS!!!
congrats on placing!! and on bettering your time from last year.
That sounds like a great race. I am still working up the courage to run my first 5K LOL.
That is so awesome that you placed! I think if I tried to run a 5K, I’d be much more likely to fall over than to place.
I haven’t set many fitness goals recently. It’s terrible I know. I just really want to start jogging again and eating better. Much better.
Way to go on the 5k and placing 3rd in your age group. That’s really something.
Great job on the race! it sounds like a serious challenge. The hill would be insane!
Congrats! My whole family is doing a 5K in May! I LOVE them, it’s fitness and fun for the family!
What beautiful scenery for your 5K! I would love to start participating in more races like this.
Congratulations you did awesome. I started a 9 day workout program yesterday and my goal is to actually finish all 90 days. I was so sore after yesterday I had to force myself to complete it today.
I have failed at all my fitness goals recently. It’s really time for me to get back on track and back into shape!
You did awesome! I am so inspired to go out and run!
You had a beautiful route! our races here are kinda boring.
Congrats on your 3rd place! I’ve done 2 5Ks and didn’t do either in 30 minutes LOL
Awesome! And cograts on the time. My fitness goal lately is to just keep trying. I have to get my chronic pain issues managed and then get back on the treadmill. Slow walks and build back up again.
What an awesome race you ran. Third place in your group and a personal best for the event is certainly inspiring. I’m extending my walking time each day and hope to be in shape to jog a bit longer very soon. I want to participate in a couple of 5Ks this fall. You’ve motivated me with your post on the Fiddlin 5K.
WOW! Good for you. I am not a runner and I am in awe of people that can run races like this. Great job!
What a great race! I haven’t been able to run an entire 5k yet, this is a goal. I loved reading your report!
What an awesome race! Looks like you had a blast. I’m not much of a runner myself.
I don’t have any fitness goals at this time. Maybe next year.
I have a friend who runs and those shirts/medals are her prize dreams. She displays her medals on the wall. š I think it’s cool.
You had an amazing run and that scenery! Deffinitely kept you company what fun
You did an awesome job- congrats! Around here, all the running is flat since we don’t have any hills!
Congrats!! You did a great job. Hats off to you! I’ve never tried my hand at running. Inspired.
