Finding my blogger self at Type-A Parent Conference #typeacon

I started blogging almost 10 years ago. I never thought this would be a lasting gig for myself, but one year I found myself attending the Type-A Conference (at the time it was Type-A Mom conference, and it was in my hometown of Asheville, NC.) I wasn’t a mom. I think we had our cat at the time, but I knew that I could learn a thing or two about blogging and websites in general. I was a little hesitant about the conference, but figured what did I really have to lose?

I met some of the best people at that conference. As soon as I could, I purchased a ticket for the following year. I remember attending in 2011 and I was two months away from having my baby. Finally! I was almost a mom, attending the Type-A Parent Conference! I missed the conference when it moved to Charlotte, but I went last year (2013) in Atlanta.

Three years to the same conference and each time I walk away with so much new knowledge – and so many great friends. My blog friends – my pocket friends – become in-real-life friends.

The bloggers at Type-A come from all different backgrounds. Many are new to the blogosphere. Many have hundreds of thousands of page views on their site each month. I fall in between. Several people I’ve met are published authors. There are stay-at-home moms, work-at-home moms, work-out-of-the-home moms, dad bloggers and people I’ve missed here.

I’ve learned about search engine optimization, working with brands, ins and outs of social media, Pinterest tips…and so much more. I finally had it drilled in my head that I don’t have to work for free (go figure. I think it took four conferences for me to really learn that.)

I found my voice while attending these conferences. I don’t get embarrassed when someone tells me they came across this space after the google-d me. And I own the fact that I write about “life.” It’s fairly general, but that’s me. And this space is mine.

I’m heading back again next month. (September 19-21 to be exact.) This year, I’ve been selected to be a blog partner with the conference, and I could not be more excited! I get to help out with an amazing conference AND hang with some of my best friends? My weekend is already made.

If you have the opportunity to attend one blog conference this year, I recommend Type-A. The people you’ll meet are out of this world, and the sessions you will attend are worth way more than the cost of the ticket.

And speaking of tickets, for the next 24 hours, you can get 25% off of the conference pass using the code “blogpartner“. This code will end Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 9 am EST so be sure you sign up NOW!

I promise you won’t regret it!

  1. I’ve never imagined my blog would take me where it has either. In fact, my husband and I were just talking about this at dinner since I just received a nice check in the mail today. So crazy that we can do what we love ONLINE, have fun, and (sometimes) make money from it. It’s so awesome.

  2. I was so bummed to miss out on the Type A event at Disneyland this year. Was unable to make it to Type A Conference this year, but am definitely planning on going next year. I’ve heard amazing things about it.
