Five places to see fall leaves around Charlottesville

Leaf season is here, and everywhere I turn I feel like I am getting a great show. Just north of me is Charlottesville, Virginia and the city offers SO MUCH when it comes to leaf peeping!

Thanks to Umansky Toyota of Charlottesville for collaborating on this post! As always, opinions are my own.

University of Virginia – College campuses are so fun during the school year, but come fall there’s a new energy on campus. Maybe it’s the fall foliage, or maybe it’s the vibe of students gearing up for the end of the fall semester (because most colleges are halfway through fall semester at this point. It’s all downhill from here!) Check out the buildings on campus or see if there’s an athletic event you can attend. (Though I would highly recommend skipping the events and just wandering when there are fewer people/fans on campus!)

Blue Ridge Parkway – The Blue Ridge Parkway is 469 miles, and runs through North Carolina and Virginia. There are no fees to travel the parkway, and there are so many pull-offs to complete short hikes or take photos along your way. Pack a picnic and enjoy the day!

Shenandoah National Park – Just north of the Blue Ridge Parkway is the Shenandoah National Park. This park has its own scenic parkway – Skyline Drive – but connects to the Blue Ridge Parkway. It isn’t free to enter, but still worth the admission.

Wineries – There are more than 30 wineries within a 30-mile radius of Charlottesville! The brew scene is also thriving in Charlottesville, but I think spending a day at a winery in the fall sounds pretty heavenly and relaxing. (Maybe leave the kids at home for your day at the winery.)

Thomas Jefferson’s home (Monticello) – I love a good historical site and this home is beautiful as it is surrounded by trees. You can get a day pass to the house and grounds for reasonable prices. Kids under 5 are free, and children ages 5-11 are $10 year-round. Average visit is a little more than 3 hours, but you could definitely extend that for the full day.

Umansky Toyota has a fantastic selection of new Toyota vehicles, but they also have a great selection of budget friendly used cars. So if you’re in the market (and in the Charlottesville, Virginia area) for a new-to-you car, they can meet your needs!
