Friday 5
I’m linking up with Emmy today for Friday 5. Five stories from my week and five random photos.
1. I survived graduation reception. I even made MHU cookies for the occasion (and some of the graduates were spotted taking photos with the cookies. It was pretty awesome.) It was a success and I felt like I was going to fall over by the end of it. In fact, I was so exhausted, I thought the building was moving on Friday. And again on Saturday. So much exhaustion, but it was all worth it.
2. My allergy attack from a couple of weeks ago led to an eye infection, which turned into a double eye infection and gave me a week vacation from contacts. I actually hate wearing my glasses full-time, so I’m just feeling very blah this week. I’m hoping I can be cleared on Monday and can wear my contacts again. My boss told me I look hipster when I wear my glasses, so I’ve got that going for me, I guess. (Oh, and I’m also having to use eye drops four times a day and they burn!) By the way, I’m very aware that this is a first world problem and really a non-issue. I’m lucky to have glasses that I can see with.
3. Are you following American Idol? One of the top two finalists is from Asheville, my hometown. In fact, he’s a graduate of the same high school I graduated from (and he has ties to the university I attended/currently work for.) It’s kind of cool. I don’t watch Idol on a regular basis, but I’m rooting for Caleb.
4. We’re considering a (very short) camping trip this summer. Long, long ago, I registered for camping gear before we were married. We received it all at one of our wedding showers. It’s never been used. We’ll be married 7 years in October, and the husband wants to use the stuff this summer. So. Yeah. That should be interesting. Have you ever been camping with a 2.5-year-old?
5. I did the elliptical during lunch yesterday. Four miles in 32 minutes. My legs are still jello-like. Also, it’s really nice having the fitness center almost completely to myself while students are home for the summer. I don’t have to fight over the tv, the weights, or any of the machines I want to use! It’s like I have a private health club!
After an epic meltdown, he calmed down while eating dinner. And then he said, “I need a treat.” He wanted a cookie, but we didn’t have any, so he said, “I need an ice cream treat.” So off to The Hop we went.
MHU cookies – sprayed gold.
Hipster Jaime.
Chloe. This is blurry because she’s always moving, and in this moment she was tapping me to pet her. Always tapping.
Bubble blowing with my boy.
How was your week? Any fun plans for the weekend?
You do look cute in your glasses! I hate having to wear glasses though myself as I hate that I can tell my peripheral vision is not in focus, I am sure if I wore glasses all of the time my brain would adjust but I love my contacts, in fact my glasses are a presumption behind, whoops.
Congrats on the successful graduation! Your cookies are great and glad they were appreciated.
I have been camping with a little one, in fact once went camping when Lucas was 3 and Alex was barely 1. They both loved it and did great. The biggest tip is to have warm pajamas as it gets cold at night in a tent. My boys are actually going camping tonight for a father’s and son’s campout.
Thanks so much for linking up
Thanks for the updates, I like your style! I have also learned if treats are earned, don;t try to fight it or put it off, get it to your kid ASAP. At least that’s how I have to do it!
thanks,
MItch
Agreed! He doesn’t get treats after every meal, but when he’s being extra sweet, I don’t mind going to get ice cream. š
just pick a spot near but not next to the playground & the bathroom š take his trike & a few other toys. you will all benefit from it!!
I hadn’t thought of taking his tricycle! SO smart!!
I got to skip out on my sister in law’s graduation. 3.5 hours saved. woooot!
I like your glasses. I don’t like wearing mine, but the pollen is making them so bad my contacts feel like glass.
Elliptical…yeah, I need to get on ours!
I love your glasses! I think they look really cute. Also I’m seriously envious at you having the gym all to yourself! Sounds like heaven! I’ve never been camping with small children (or at all if you want to get technical) but my husband’s dying to go. I’m a bit nervous to take the 4 year old but people seem to do it and it works out. If you do I want to hear how it goes!
Treats are a powerful tool. Nice post.
Nice work on the cookies. š
You do rock the glasses. I know you aren’t thrilled but you do!
I think the glasses are cute, but I wouldn’t want to have to wear my glasses all day either. I can understand that. Can I just say, the cookies look delicious!
Great job on the elliptical! I am still trying to get myself to 30 minutes. I can’t take the burn! It really is a great machine and burns a ton of calories if done correctly.
I like your “hipster” look! Too bad you had to rock it because of an eye infection š
Well speaking of graduation, my family and I have a trip planned up north (Wisconsin) to see my sister graduate from college with 1 major and 3 minors! Don’t tell her but I’m super proud of her š
I think you look very adorable and sophisticated in glasses! My boyfriend hates his glasses too and can’t wait to get contacts so I guess it’s a glasses-person kinda thing. Fingers crossed you are cleared to go back to contacts soon!
Your cookies turned out great! Did you make them freeform?
Hipster Jaime is rocking those glasses! š
And I love that you are going camping with the kids. I’ve done it in the past and my sons and I love it. However, this year I plan on renting a house by the lake for a month. Has amenities, like AC. With age I think I’ve learned to crave those luxuries LOL
I used to go camping as a kid and I still remember it being a highlight of childhood. I think it will be fun. š
4 miles in 32 minutes? You were hauling butt! Way to go!
Oh no on your eye infection. Hope you make it on your camping trip, sounds fun. We want to do a camping trip but might wait until our 2-year old is just a little older. I know his sister is itching to go, she’s 6 and loves the outdoors. Have a great weekend!
I think you look great in glasses. I feel the same, I almost never wear my glasses out of the house because I look dreadful in them.
So sorry you ended up with an eye infection. Just can’t catch a break, can you? Glad you made it through the graduation reception. Your MHU cookies are perfect.
Good for you getting on the elliptical. I used to use it for 45 minutes. But I haven’t done that in years. I’m sure I’d have to build up to that time again. Now I just do home workouts and love them.
How cool that you have a fitness center right there near you! I would love to get energized in the middle of the day with exercise instead of drinking tons of coffee. Also, I’m loving the hipster Jaime look. LOVING IT. The hubs and I were totally into backpacking before we had the boys, and we haven’t been on any overnight camping trips since becoming parents. I think it’s time, though. Brooks would be great, but the toddler? I don’t know…
camping with a 2yr old….hmm… lol yay for the great workout!
I need to find a way to get to my elliptical during lunch! This was a great motivator!
I’m not huge on camping but I can see how that can be fun. Hope y’all have a blast this summer!
My husband and son (he’ll be 3.5 then) are going camping our anniversary weekend actually. I’m scared to death about it. What if he wakes up and gets out of the tent in the middle of the night and no one notices. Ugh… Mommy fears kicked in as soon as I signed them up!
I don’t watch American Idol, but it’s cool to read about Caleb being from your home town. I am also in NC, so that excited me, too!
Your cookies turned out so cute! Yikes on your eye infection! The pollen this year has been terrible- it’s been driving my eyes crazy.
Great job on the cookies! I have been dying with my allergies this week!
the cookies turned out cute. we are planing on camping in the next couple of weeks
Lol, so we too have camping gear that is un-used . I’ve determined I’m much more of a room service type of gal.
Oh my goodness, allergies are attacking me too! They are certainly NO fun here either! Sorry for the eye infections š
You look SO ADORABLE in your glasses! I’m sorry that you have to do those drops, though. Hopefully you can heal quickly!
Those cookies? Too cute! I love that they are gold! (And how cool is that about Caleb from American Idol?!)
Sounds like a great week! Your glass are cute and look good on you!
Great job on the cookies! The glasses are hipster! š
Is it bad that I had no idea the new season of American Idol had started?
