Get your car ready for fall

A few times a year, I do a deep clean of my car. This tends to happen right before summer, and as school is starting. My vehicle is generally ready for a road trip in spring and summer, but what about fall and into winter?

The weather is all over the place this time of year. In my area, it’s going to change by 20 degrees this week, and in a single day the temps can change that much. It’s a little crazy when you think about it! With the change in seasons, I try to remember to make sure I’m prepared for the next season of driving. 

Each month I try to wash and vacuum my car. I wasn’t great about doing this with my last vehicle, but I’m trying more these days. With two kids, I always have something to vacuum. And with a black car, I always have dirt to wash off.

We tend to have dead batteries more this time of year, and a few years ago I bought my husband a portable jump starter that will jump his car when nobody is around. (I will always make a call to get my car jumped, but sometimes it’s nice to have a back-up!) 

Now that temps have dropped below freezing, we’re seeing more frost on cars. Do you have your ice scraper handy? It should probably be placed back in your car. 

It would be wise to add a blanket to your trunk too. 

If you aren’t the type of person who keeps up with maintenance, I would suggest a tune-up in between seasons, as well! Get the tires rotated, oil changed, fluids checked out. All the necessary things that we don’t want to take time doing each month.
