Going north, in a nutshell

Our summer vacation (or, rather, my summer vacation) has come and gone. We headed to Buffalo, NY last Monday and returned on Saturday afternoon. Thank goodness for the last cheap tickets anywhere in the country…we were able to save a lot of money and not have to drive. So, while we spent a lot of time on planes and in airports, at least we didn’t have to drive.

The sunrise from our flight:

Monday landed us in Buffalo, and sleeping in the afternoon. We ate the traditional pizza and wings for dinner, and called it an “early” night around 10:30. We had early days planned for every day – it usually involved running.

Tuesday had us running intervals for almost 3 miles, and then playing disc golf at Beaver State Park, which is located along the Niagara River. They call the Niagara River a “water hazard.” Ummm. Yeah.

We also ended up at the mall for more. than. four. hours.

It was enough to drive me insane. Me! A professional shopper! I managed to score great deals at J. Crew, Banana Republic, among other stores…It was fanastic, but tiresome.

Wednesday? Again, we ran. And then we headed to Toronto with dad and Gail. I think the highlight for Kenny was the CN Tower. The tower, which is the world’s tallest structure, is very impressive, but tends to make me dizzy just looking at it. It excited Kenny to no end. We had a hotel room right downtown and hit up Eaton Square, the Hard Rock Cafe, random stores along Yonge Street, saw the old and new city halls, took the subway around downtown, and saw the Toronto Bluejays take on the Cincinnatti Reds…and that was just on Wednesday. On Thursday, we saw Casa Loma, the Distillery section and the Harbour Front. By the time we got to the Harbour, we were exhausted and ready to go…so we did…but not before we got stuck in rush hour traffic.

Friday was a little more resting, visiting with relatives and a little more shopping. We had to be up at 4:30 on Saturday morning, in order to get to the airport on time, but with the terrible thunderstorm Friday night, I think we *may* have gotten about 2 hours of sleep…max.

The popcorn we had the night before we left…yummmm…

Needless to say, we’re home and somewhat rested. It was a lot to cram in, and I posted 32 photos in a slideshow here. Hopefully, I can get through Kenny’s pictures soon and edit them.

For now, though, this girl is going to get some more rest. I need a vacation from my vacation.
