Welcome to the spooky and fun world of Halloween bookmarks – a great craft you can do with your kids!
As the Halloween season approaches, what better way to embrace the spirit of this ghoulish holiday than by crafting your very own spooky and fall-festive bookmarks? Whether you’re an avid reader looking to add a touch of Halloween to your favorite books or a parent seeking a craft activity for your kids, this post will guide you through the step-by-step process of making Halloween-themed bookmarks that are both imaginative and easy to create. Let’s dive into the world of DIY Halloween bookmarks and get ready to bookmark your favorite spine-tingling tales!
What You Need to Make These Bookmarks:
- Colored craft paper (card stock is a great option since it’s so sturdy)
- A pair of scissors
- Craft glue or a glue stick
- Pencil – to trace the template
- Sharpies
How to Make Your Halloween Corner Bookmarks:
Step 1 – Print the templates (you can have them sent to your inbox through the form above) and select any colored paper or regular paper for the origami corner bookmarks. Pick out your different colored paper/card stock for the bookmark patterns and characters. The template includes patterns for a bat, ghost, jack-o-lantern, candy corn and a witch’s hat. We are going to start with the bat and jack-o-lantern patterns.
Step 2 – Trace the patterns on your selected papers and cut them out using your scissors.
Step 3 – Take the bat and pumpkin bases and select matching colored sharpies for them. Use the sharpies to trace outlines on the bat and pumpkin bases.
Step 4 – Take the pumpkin base and attach the eye cutouts onto the base.
Step 5 – Attach the stem cutout on the top side of the pumpkin pattern and then use black
sharpies to draw the nose and mouth of the paper pumpkin pattern.
Step 6 – We’ll work on the paper bat now. Attach the eye cutouts on the head part of the bat
base and use a black sharpie to draw the mouth of the paper bat.
Step 7 – Attach the fang cutouts along the bottom side of the mouth. Use a pink sharpie to draw and fill the inner ear parts.
Step 8 – Prepare 2 square sheets of 12cm x 12cm or 1 or 2 cm longer. Craft origami corner
bookmarks using the square sheets. (This site has a great tutorial for making the origami bookmarks.)
Step 9 – Attach the papercraft jack-o-lantern and bat figures on the origami corner bookmarks. You can attach the papercraft items on any side you want. Allow the glue to dry before using the bookmarks.
You can then trace, cut out and glue the other patterns to make the remaining bookmarks!
Whether you’ve chosen to craft spooky pumpkins, ghostly bookmarks, or even a witch’s hat to mark your pages, the joy of making something special with your own hands is an experience to treasure. These homemade bookmarks will add a touch of Halloween magic to your reading adventures. So, gather your craft supplies, let your imagination run wild, and enjoy a Halloween filled with the thrill of creativity. Happy crafting, and may your Halloween reads be both spooky and spellbinding!
