Halloween recap: Mummy hot dogs, past costumes

Last year, I posted a quick look at how to make Mummy hot dogs. I made them for my husband’s co-workers (I wasn’t working full-time. I had a lot of time on my hands.) For my first time making them, they were kind of fun. Ironically enough, we have hot dogs this week and I’m thinking of making the mummies again.

And that got me to thinking back on Halloweens of past and our son’s costumes. This year, he’s getting into the costume thing, but wants to be sure we know that he’s really Lucas and not Elmo.

Our first Halloween as a family of 3, we were the scarecrow, Dorothy and Toto. Lucas was just about 7 or 8 weeks old and slept through the Halloween party we attended (at a neighbor’s house.) (For some reason I canNOT find the photo of us! I know a couple were taken.)

Second Halloween and our boy was a dinosaur! He was the cutest dinosaur. I loved the costumes from Carters and wish they made them for big kids.

His third Halloween, he was Winnie the Pooh. I found the costume on consignment and it fit perfectly. (We have an Eeyore costume now, that my aunt gave us, but it’s still too big for this year.)

I bought his Elmo costume a few weeks ago and it’s already a little short. Hoping we can make it through Friday evening with the costume intact. Or maybe we’ll put him in the too-big Eeyore costume. He hasn’t been trick or treating yet. We’re going to a fall festival on Friday evening and then may take him to a few neighbor’s houses. I’m not sure how he’ll handle trick or treating. (He may love it and totally surprise us!)

Do you have a favorite costume your child has worn – or that you’ve seen on kids? I still think the dinosaur is my favorite…

  1. Ha! I’m not sure you can beat the round belly in that dino costume! Too stinkin’ cute. I liked this cat costume my son wore and he was also a scarecrow another year. He was too cute.

  2. Mummy hot dogs would make a great dinner before trick or treating. I bet the Elmo costume will be really cute.

  3. Those hot dogs look fantastic. I will have to try making Mummy Hot Dogs. My kids have had some great costumes over the years. My favorite ones would have to be when my daughter was a pumkin as a baby. My son loved Power Rangers.

  4. Mummy hotdogs (or as we call them Yummy Mummies) are such a fun treat! As far as favorite costumes, my now 16 year old dressed as Scooby Doo the year that we adopted her and she was SOOOO proud of herself! It’s one of my faves!

  5. Those mummy dogs are always a hit with the kids! I may have to whip some up this year, even though we aren’t hosting a party. It just isn’t Halloween without some!

  6. I think my favorite was our second year when he was a spider and I was his web. It really did look cute. šŸ™‚ I also have had a pumpkin (1st year for both), dinosaur, fireman, pilot and then we ventured into the commercial costumes of Power Rangers. I hope he gets out this very soon.
