In honor of my husband’s 30th birthday, we decided to host a cookout. We had roughly 25 people come over, and while the grill decided not to start, I think it’s safe to say that everyone had a great time. (We broke out the George Foreman grill for all of the meat. It was the perfect back-up grill.)

I made a pasta salad that was large enough to feed a small army. I started making it on Friday night, and accidentally put about 4 times the amount of frozen peas in the bowl, so I decided to just quadruple the recipe.

There was a lot of cake – I made a chocolate on chocolate cake that I watched split apart as the day wore on. I also made a yellow cake with maple frosting, which seemed to be a hit. Some friends brought a cookie cake that we added to the dessert pile. 🙂

Guitar Hero made an appearance about halfway into the evening, and all of our friends seemed to get along well with one another (we have many “circles” of friends that we like to throw together at our parties!)

At the end of the night, when everyone had left, we had an incident with the cat. Chloe escaped through the back door and we (my husband, sister-in-law and myself) spent about 20 minutes chasing her and trying to catch her. I can still see Heather running across the yard….and then falling down the hill. Chloe looked at her, and then turned around and walked back into the house. (It was pretty funny when we thought about it.) When I got inside, I grabbed the cat, went to sit down on a chair and caught the edge of the chair before falling, hitting my head on the edge of an end table and crashing to the floor. It took a few minutes to figure out that my head was bleeding. Luckily, everyone is ok and I only lost a shirt (blood stains.) I do have a sore head now. Oh, and there may have been a few pina coladas involved with the party. Just saying.

These were taken today, just before Heather left.

My husband’s birthday is on Tuesday and we’re heading to Atlanta to see Tori Amos tomorrow night. We’ll also get to see several friends while we’re in Georgia, which should make for a lot of fun.

I’m just staying away from the pina coladas for a while. They only cause trouble.

  1. You’re pasta salad looks delicious. Would you send me the recipe (Just one batch). I think I will make it while we’re at the cabin and extra people are there. Glad your party was a success!!Happy Birthday, Kenny!!!

  2. Glad you had a fun weekend. I myself am still recovering from the 5K (cause I’m not in the shape you are) so I’ve been wobbling around all day looking a little bolegged, but at least I can get around, hang overs are a bit harder for me to recover from, lol.
