These felt pouches are simple to make and make a fun addition to an Easter basket. If you’re going to try making them with a child, you will need to be comfortable showing them how to use a needle to sew the pouch together to make it more secure.

This project is beginner-friendly, requires minimal sewing, and you’ll have a reusable pouch that can be used year after year for egg hunts or small treats.

My youngest child really loves crafting, and this is easy enough for her to cut out and use fabric glue to glue things in place. The sewing part can be simple enough, but she will need a little guidance when it comes to that. She LOVES tiny things – charms, toys, etc. – and I can see her using these for her favorite tiny treasures.

What can you do with these pouches?

I think these would be fun for an Easter egg hunt. We know eggs are outrageously expensive, but these could be made so much cheaper. And you can save them to use again in future years.

They could be used in an Easter basket or you could put notes in them and create a scavenger hunt. You could really get creative with these felt pouches.

What you need to make a set of felt Easter egg pouches:

  • Felt fabrics
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue

How to make your Easter egg pouches

Step 1: Print and cut out the templates (get the templates in your email through the form just above!) for the Easter egg pouch. The template includes patterns for the egg base, bottom half of a cracked egg, and small round shapes. Trace the patterns on your felt and cut them out using scissors.

Step 2: Take the bottom half of the cracked egg cutout and the small round cutouts. Use hot glue (dries more quickly) or fabric glue to attach the round felt cutout to the cracked egg cutout. You can also stitch the round felt cutouts if you want to.

Step 3: Attach the round cutouts on the egg cutout in rows if you want a clean and organized look. You can also go for a random pattern.

Step 4: Fill in the egg with the cutouts and glue in place (if you’re using hot glue or fabric glue.)

Step 5: Place the cracked egg pattern on the bottom part of the egg base. Prepare needle and thread.

Step 6: Stitch along the round side of the patterns to attach the base with the cracked pattern.

Step 7: Work running stitches along the side and tie 2 tight knots when you’re done. Cut off the extra thread.

Step 8: You can place small candy, notes, possibly a gift card inside the felt egg pouch!

What can you put in these small felt Easter egg pouches?

So many things can be placed in these pouches! When it comes to candy, think small – like jelly beans, m&m’s, small foil-wrapped chocolates. You could even put chocolate coins in them. You could put loose change in them, possibly a gift card, charms, small erasers (go Easter-themed!), stickers, or even a note. Set up a scavenger hunt!
