We were under a winter storm warning all weekend, even through mid-day Monday. A year ago when this happened, we did not have any warning, so I’m glad we had some idea of what could potentially happen if we got the projected snow forecast for our area. If there is one thing my family wants when it’s cold and snowing outside, its the perfect hot chocolate recipe. Yes, I could make something quick from a mix, but this recipe even has a cool chocolate foam on the top of it.
A few months ago I was sent a Vitamix to try out. I didn’t realize how much I would want a Vitamix until I had it in my house. (Also not related to hot chocolate, but I used my Vitamix last weekend to mash potatoes. I have no shame when it comes to this kitchen tool.) Well I just received the Vitamix Aer Disc Container and I cannot wait to whip up other drinks this winter – and next spring! The possibilities are endless with this container.
For this recipe (which Vitamix provided), you will need 2 cups of milk and a half cup of chocolate chips. Chocolate sprinkles are optional, but I dig them.
Ingredients:
2 cups of milk
1/2 cup of chocolate chips
Chocolate sprinkles (optional!)
Directions:
I warmed the milk for about 30 seconds. I wasn’t sure if the chocolate chips would melt or blend properly, but I stuck the milk into the microwave for 30 seconds and then I poured it into the Vitamix Aer Disc Container.
Add the chocolate chips and after securing the lid, turn Vitamix on. Slowly increase the speed until it is almost full speed – and let it mix for about 7-8 minutes until it is a creamy liquid.
Once I poured it into my mug, I heated it again for another 20 seconds, and I topped it with chocolate sprinkles. (I then made it with whipped cream. Either way is so good.)
The hot chocolate has this amazing foam on the top! And when my husband tried it, he thought it tasted like dark chocolate. I added a candy cane for a hint of peppermint and it was the perfect hot chocolate recipe! If you want to change up the flavor, you can add about 1/8 of a teaspoon of your favorite extract.
Now for the whipped cream…
Ingredients:
3 cups of heavy cream
1/3 cup of sugar
Directions:
Add your cream to the Vitamix Aer Disc Container. Then add the sugar. Turn the Vitamix on and increase the speed slowly, but you’ll only need about a minute before the whipped cream is formed – and perfect!
Add a candy cane, and it’s pretty much out of this world deliciousness. Also, I thought whipped cream would take so much longer – and it took one minute. I’m pretty excited about this even more.
