The benefits of supplements (and how to save money on vitamins!)

I was never a daily vitamin or supplement person until shortly before I got pregnant with my first child. I had an allergy to the coating on vitamins, so I ended up taking a children’s multivitamin for many months. My doctor totally supported this.

So more than 11 years, I’ve been vigilant in taking my daily multivitamin. At times, I’ve added in other supplements – I have needed iron both times I was pregnant, and in the winter months I like to increase my vitamin C and zinc. Nowadays, I take a multivitamin, Elderberry and vitamin C – every day, like clockwork. I used to only take elderberry in cold and flu season, but I like to try to fight off colds even during the summer months (because summer colds are NO fun.)

Benefits of supplements:

A balanced diet doesn’t always cut it. I wish I had a better diet, but I do the best I can. A daily multivitamin ensures I’m getting the proper nutrients I need each day.

They can help boost your immunity. My daily multivitamin doesn’t have elderberry, but I love having the extra boost to my immune system. Many people may wait until fall/winter to start taking elderberry. I take it daily, and I make sure during the colder months that I have plenty for me and my husband to take daily.

Vitamin C is also a great one to help with immunity. I know my multivitamin has Vitamin C, but with this I know that I have 100% (or more) of the daily recommended amount. When my kids come down with colds, I ramp up my Vitamin C. I can’t always drink a ton of orange juice, but I can take a vitamin.

Supplements can make you feel better in general. Let’s face it. I can try to maintain a balanced diet, but I’m probably not going to get everything I need in a given day. Vitamins and supplements help me feel better, give me more energy and I don’t have any issues getting to sleep or staying asleep. (Granted, I could stand to go to bed earlier, but that’s not something a supplement can help me with.)

How to save on vitamins and supplements:

Buy in bulk, when possible. Since my husband and I share some of our supplements (vitamin C, elderberry), I like to buy bottles that will cover more than a month.

Subscribe and save. When you shop Viva Naturals, you can subscribe and save 10% on your orders. I save money on most of my vitamins by using subscribe and save services.

Why Viva Naturals?

They have a Subscribe & Save program, which is fantastic – you don’t have to remember to order and can just set that up to be shipped to you. Shipping is free over $79.

Viva Natural’s Elderberry, Vitamin C + Zinc gummies are on the left. Their Vitamin B3+B12 gummies are on the right.

Their Elderberry, Vitamin C + Zinc gummies have the BEST texture. They are not hard to chew, and they are not sticky, as some gummies tend to be. I’ve tried at least 4 other brands, and I love, love, love Viva Naturals elderberry gummies.

They offer Vitamin D3 + B12 gummies, which support immune and cardiovascular health. I’ve been taking them this month and like they also offer the benefit of maintaining healthy teeth and bones. (I’m not getting any younger, so having healthy bones is important.) These gummies are a little more like a candy texture. They don’t stick to my teeth, but they aren’t as easy to chew as the elderberry gummies mentioned above.
