it’s for a good cause!!

I met Sally through Team in Training this past spring. She’s training for the Seattle marathon (you know, the race I wanted to run?) Well, she’s so close to her fundraising goal of $4500. You can read about some of her adventures by clicking here. She needs between $100 and $200 to meet her goals and then she can take the next two weeks to focus on her training (and her battered body.)

You can donate to the cause by clicking here. A portion of the money she is raising is going towards sending her to Seattle. The majority of the money goes to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

A few info facts:
$750 Provides a leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma patient with financial aid to support medical treatment and to travel to medical appointments for one year.
$500 Allows (10) patients to logon to a webcast and hear the latest information in treatment for their disease.
$250 Provides a Family Support Group for one year.
$150 Will train (6) survivors to make First Connections with a newly diagnosed patient.
$100 Helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
$75 Average cost of tissue typing to become a bone marrow donor.
$50 The cost of a co-payment for a CT scan.
$40 Will educate (4) school employees on how to ease the transition back to school for a child with cancer.
$35 Will purchase (12) Charlie Brown DVDs to explain cancer to pediatric patients.
$25 Covers a single prescription co-payment.
$5 The cost of sending a newly diagnosed patient a packet which includes information about their specific disease and support.

So, if you can help her out, I know she would appreciate it! Just tell her I sent you šŸ˜‰

  1. Definitely steal the facts šŸ™‚ They’re helpful!

I mentored this season. We did a yard sale in May and people got donations of junk to sell. I’ve heard of people doing a chili cook-off (people donate the chili and others pay to eat it.) If you know a small enough venue or musicians, you could possibly get the musicians to donate their time of one show and raise money through ticket sales. If I do TNT this winter, I’m considering some sort of house party – where people donate to TNT to attend. šŸ™‚ Our parties are becoming pretty big deals, and I know that our friends would donate to a good cause, if I provided food and drinks (which some places will donate.)

Also, check with Wal-Mart for a corporate sponsorship or donation. They donated to a couple of people that I know.

  2. Sweet, thanks. Yeah I’m doing a dessert & coffee night next Thursday so I hope that goes well…I’m looking into sponsorships now.

Might have to try out the yard sale idea.

    Thanks!
