Have I mentioned that our kitchen was the one room we wanted to do the MOST changes with when we moved in? Surprising too because it was obvious that the previous owners tried hard to make it look decent. They painted the once brown cabinets white and changed the hardware to silver/nickel knobs. Nice little touches.
The kitchen still had a dropped ceiling with fluorescent lighting, and upon looking under those ceiling panels, we realized they had lots of late 70s/early 80s wallpaper hanging. And they painted over it in the rest of the kitchen.
So, check out this post if you want to see the lighting we now have (after we tore down the ceiling and fluorescent lighting.)
Today I decided that I really wanted to take down the wallpaper and paint. We don’t know what color we want to paint anything, but the wallpaper was going to be the first monster.
Oh and the husband volunteered to help just a little bit and he took down the metal railing (which we left up because we were kind of lazy after installing the light fixture.)
The wallpaper that was vertical actually went down the entire wall, it wasn’t just a border, so it’s been more of a pain. I’ve left some of it up. I don’t think I can tackle it all just now. The paper literally peeled right off. I was done with my part in under 15 minutes.
I think we still have the task of taking down the wallpaper glue. We haven’t quite figured out what was behind the paper and where the drywall begins.
And we have to make a decision on paint. I’m on a roll….and our housewarming party is next Saturday. Eek.
What color would you go with for a kitchen that can hold 4 people? It’s pretty tiny 🙂
