A few years ago, my husband requested summer sausage as a Christmas gift. He received several summer sausages that year – and loved every one of them. Imagine his delight when a box containing Klement’s Cheddar Summer Sausage and Snack Sticks arrived at our house a few weeks ago. (He was so excited he had to ask me multiple time if I’d taken photos yet for this post.)

So let’s chat Snack Sticks first. These are so great. They’re tasty and filling – without unnecessary fillers. They’re easy to have on the go. When I told my husband I intended on putting several in the hospital bag for him, his reply was “if I haven’t eaten them all by then.” (Thankfully I was able to hide a few before he could eat the entire carton of sticks.) Our son was even intrigued by the snack sticks – and he doesn’t love all foods. These will definitely be purchased to have for quick snacks.

In late spring, and through the summer, my husband and I love to have snacks (and maybe drinks) on our back deck, preferably during naptime or when our son is in bed. The Klement’s Summer Sausage is perfect for our in-home “dates.” This week is our first full week home since the baby was born (you know, just a week ago) and we’ve had a lot of visitors. One afternoon, in an effort to keep our energy up, and also provide some snacks to our visitors, I made a quick snack tray with the Cheddar Summer Sausage and crackers and extra cheese (because I am a cheese lover.)

See the photo of the sliced sausage? There’s cheddar in there. It’s perfect for the sausage and cheese lover. My husband was pleasantly surprised when he bit into a slice of the sausage and discovered the cheddar. I was happy that the sausage wasn’t too spicy (especially since I’m eating for two….still.) I personally like to eat my summer sausage with crackers. I may have gone a little overboard with cheese, though.

Both of the products we tried are gluten free and have no MSG added. I love that the first ingredients are beef and pork. They’re also naturally hardwood smoked (which just adds to the tastiness of the sausages.) Also the summer sausage was so easy to slice. Not tough and messy like I’ve experienced with other sausage companies.

You can easily create your own snack tray with one of the Klement’s summer sausages, crackers and sliced cheese of your choosing. (If you go for the Original Summer Sausage, I can only imagine the possibilities of cheese to add.) This one can technically stand on its own since it has the cheddar mixed in.

  1. I’m from Wisconsin, home of Klement’s 😉 so it’s almost required that someone in my family has sausage in their DNA somewhere. My son eats all of it although he’s not a huge fan of the one with cheese in it. He LOVES the snack sticks, the spicier the better.

We had Klement’s brats last weekend!

  2. Snack trays like this are always a hit at any party – or just for an after school snack for my kids. Yum!
